ugh. now i remember why i was never serious about getting a 32.
there are auxillary gains right above the EQ's where they are supposed to be. Depending on what output you are using the gains on the back arent even in the loop. Allen and Heath dont leave mixers in production for 5+ years with 'stupid' issues

Aren't those Aux gains for the effects loop? http://www.dv247.com/assets/products/15828_l.jpg

I'm looking to upgrade from my DJM600 to an Ecler Nuo4 (not 4.0). I've read that the sound quality and general component and build quality of Ecler mixers are pretty good.

What are peoples opinions of them?

I'm just bedroom DJing and playing at a few parties at the moment so my setup is very basic. Just using 2 x 1200s into my 600 and then running straight out into some Tapco S5 monitors on balanced XLR leads. I bought all my stuff as an ebay job lot for some stupidly low price but everything has been round the block a few times so I'm looking for a new mixer that just a bit tighter feeling. Got a good offer on this Ecler so thought I'd go for it.

Thinking of eventually starting to use serator as a 3rd deck, so controlling it via the Ecler's midi channel would be a definite bonus.

It's been a long time since I ever thought of purchasing a DJ mixer but are Vestax just not up to the bar or something anymore? They've only been mentioned once in this thread so far.

this is an interesting observation, I've wondered this before as well..never used one at all. I guess they're just 'old school'

i use a very basic vestax, this one actually

not sure how high end the guts are, but this thing has lasted me probably 8 years now, can't tell a difference from when it was right out of the box. they're no frills, very reliable. or they were i should say, i don't know the current standing of vestax.

i'll be happy to give this one to a dj in need when i get my new mixer, and i know it will be appreciated.

I used to run with one of these:

and it served me well over the years before I passed it onto a mate who was starting out.

I bought a Vestax 07 Pro back around '98 or '99 for £800.00, and it was the best mixer on the market of it's type. Great design, good sound, ground-breaking crossfaders, and it's still working fine. In 2002 Vestax moved production to China, and people reported poorer quality. Also they kind of set their stall out as makers of scratch mixers, and I think turntablism has receded a little in popularity, plus other brands have come along that offer equally good products (Rane for example).

Have been considering a Pioneer purely for the echo effect and bpm counter; synching the echo on the channel you're cueing up with the channel playing alows for some excellent on-the-fly echo drops, and if used right, you can speed up the echoes to match a new bpm. Amazing fun to mix with. But now I'm reading here that Pioneer are digital only, or poor sound quality... are there any other mixers for vinyl DJs on the market with both an echo effect and an assignable BPM counter?

If a two channel mixer is enough for you, I'd recommend the Rane TTM56. I bought mine in 2002 and never looked back. I used to have several Vestax mixers and the sound quality is crap on all of them, except the 08 and the new 05 but these are very costly.
Ecler makes really good mixers at good prices. The Nuo 2.0 is a really good sounding and performing mixer. The Rodec Scratchbox is also great but hard to find and very costly. If you can find a Stanton SA-5 or SA-8 or SA-12, these are also good mixers for the price with good sound. From personal experience Vestax would be one of the last options unless it's an 08 or the new 05. I also had a Pioneer DJM 707 which was a good mixer. The 909 is also really good but way too expensive. Pioneer mixers generally do not have a lot of headroom though. In that case the Rane takes the cake. You could drive it all the way in the red and it won't distort. Soundwise it's also really great.

if anyone is considering Ecler mixers, dont know about the new range but I had one of these for about 4 years back in the day and the sound quality, build quality and everything about it was quality, highly recommended

ive got an ecler 3 so essentially the same minus a channel (not 3.0)

nice big knobs, full eq cut, really nice adjustable settings for all faders etc.

go for it man, ecler is up there with the best!

p.s pioneer mixers are over-rated, just like technics 1200s ;-)

Just so you know i wouldn't worry about sound quality difference between the DJM & the Nuo4 because your never going to hear the difference on that system.
The Ecler's are very nice mixer but when you start playing in bar & clubs your never see one again.... 80% of the time its a DJM so dont rely or build your sets around that mixer ie the midi side of it.

Good luck and enjoy it !
