How do people like commercial films?

Surely you're not comparing In Bruges to the rest of those on your list? That film brought me continuous lol's.

Also, you surely must be able to name some fairly mainstream films you enjoy? Fargo? Pulp Fiction? No Country For Old Men?

Yeah that's true a lot. A friend of mine recently showed me some new Britney Spears or Lady Gaga video, and I asked "doesn't that sound a lot like 'Express Yourself'" and her reply was "I dunno but she's hot".

you can look at the rise of dubstep and electro house in america as a strong example of herd mentality in people. you just now see it slowly breaking into radio friendly music. people who were once likely to think of people who listen to EDM as pill popping weirdos are more likely to listen to it now (and more likely to eat some E lol).

i do love commercial music of every genre. i think if you look at folk music from all over the world you realize that these songs were all very repetitive and simple just like pop music. i would guess that traditional folk songs provide the inspiration for a lot of pop music with their simple, down to earth messages and pension for catchiness.

In France a local station played the same music constantly, like 8 times a day or something daft!

Some people just don't care about music as much as others. Other things they see as a priority and/or can't be bothered to look elsewhere for it.

james blake playing CMYK into beyonce's Im a Diva... too good! look at how happy he is when the beyonce tune drops

i also love that jamie xx plays a lot of pop in his mixes, but that's hardly surprising as he is in the xx after all...

Also Loefah has played Beyonce before, that tune Bangladesh produced. Lady Gaga was playing Where Were U in 92 at a couple of her shows (well maybe not her but it was her shows).

Ever cross your mind it might just be because they're fans of the tunes? I mean, most DJ's and producers use the sounds they love the most as influence...

If it didn't appeal to the masses, it wouldn't be commercial. If everyone appreciated dubstep, it'd be considered commercial music. And there'd be a fan of Justin Bieber asking the same question.

Maybe the more appropriate question should be: Why don't I like music that most other people like?

it seems to me that if someone honestly cares about music, they wouldn't just listen to the pop music that is produced by huge industries and theyd find some real music to listen to

It can still appeal to masses without being commercial. I wouldn't exactly call 'Rolling' by Limp Bizkit or 'This is how you remind me' by Nickelback commercial but they were popular.

'Popular' (pop) doesn't necessarily mean commercial, but commercial generally means 'pop' (or expensive to make money out of it, or both!)

The Darkness! They weren't commercial but they were popular...

massively commercial actually, major label band making verse chorus 3 minute pop rock in the vein of Queen, nothing wrong with that of course but massively commercial. Just because RnB is in the ascendancy now, 10 years ago band music was pop in the uk was it not
