My favourite albums are usually those cult ones what hardly got success when they came out. That makes me sound so hipster but I think the best albums are those only musicians, producers and genuine music lovers (not admirers) can enjoy...


A great album is one where it enthuses the mood you're in and encapsulates you. For instance I can't listen to Portishead - Portishead or Jeff Buckley - Grace, without it having some sort of emotional affect on me.. Be it happy or sad! Great music seems to capture something within a person, even if its some brostep and it makes someone go absolutely bro-tastic, it still must be great music if its having an affect on people, right?

And to the person who said theres not a lot of Electronic music being posted here...

Thats because most electronic albums are not perfect - they generally are a collection of the artists tracks which fit within a time frame of being made, opposed to themes and one main inspiration.. (my personal opinion).

I knew I'd get hate for that but I don't give a shit The thing with radiohead is that, whilst they have made a lot more consistantly amazing music than Coldplay, they don't have any one album that really stands out to me as being perfect the way Parachutes does. They come close but not quite.

Parachutes is one of the best albums ever made and anyone who doesn't agree with that is either deaf, hasn't actually listened to it or is so obsessed with being 'cool' and 'alternative' that they refuse to allow themselves to like anything that's broadly considered pop music

I love how you talk about cult music and then mention two of the biggest names in music ever XD Your point is valid though to a degree, generally the chart topping stuff is less thoughtful and lovingly crafted than underground stuff. Doesn't mean you don't get the odd chart topper that's as good, if not better than the underground stuff. Though this is becoming increasingly rare

EDIT: In fact I think over the last decade it's become pretty much unheard of. In the 90's there were amazing artists topping the charts...I can't think of more than maybe 2 in the whole last decade that were of the same standard.

one of first electronica alblums i heard....still listen to it on my mp3 player

these 2 albums were the 2 that stand out for me wanting to expand my consciousness

Can't believe I'm the first person to post this album!

This album was way ahead of it's time, and to me it still sounds ahead of its time! Nobody was properly experimenting with electronic sounds like Pink Floyd did on this album, especially them using the first sequencer in 'On the Run'. The album flows better than any other album I have ever heard and each track fading into the other seamlessly. It's perfect for all occasions, live or at home and most importantly sounds amazing on a proper system. The production and recording techniques used on this album are next to none and were some of the most advanced studio techniques of the time.

Opiou - Slurp and Giggle.

Perfect in every fucking way. I also second Nirvana's nevermind. That album had a special spot with me in highschool. Then adam freeland fucked it.

with regard to a really simple definition in my book (this ain't everything but still...) if you have the urge to skip any tracks its not a perfect album. These albums should be listened to start to finish, with a perfect flow from track to track

Nick Drake because it's an entirely listenable journey from start o finish, immaculate production
and instrumentation. And the lyrics are just as good.


This Bibio album because it's again, listenable all the way through and imparts
an almost 'journey' like feel to the whole thing, it's also got a nice 'underproduced' sound to it.


And this because it's a bomb of an album, that combines raw power with a solid intellectual message
direct from the streets.
