Re: Pioneer Mixers
I don't get why you would pay that much for it though. It's probably fun to play around with all the possibilities at home.
Record a nice set with it and all that. But once you arrive at the next best venue you're playing they'll have a djm800 and you're back to normal mixing.
Since you're using Traktor, wouldn't it be easier to get a decent MIDI controller with helluva lot of knobs and shit and go mental with that?

Re: Pioneer Mixers
i do have the traktor midi controller and i do go mental with it, although for home use this thing looks shit hot.
any mixer is going to vary from club to club, you could get shit hot on a djm800 but only play out in your city on something different..

Re: Pioneer Mixers
yeah that does look pretty amazing but 2k is a lot! wish i could bring myself to spend that much on audio equipment
plus even though it has all those fancy effects and shit i cant imagine using any of them at all apart from the filters
i spend too much time wrestling with the pitch on my dodgy turntables to have time for effects
 aha

Re: Pioneer Mixers
I have a midi controller too. The only thing I use it for is to control a virtual 3rd deck in serato and HPF and LPF's.
Truth is I don't need all those effects to spice up sets. A lot of them are just bullshit. Simple EQ'ing and occasionally and HPF and LPF is good enough.

Re: Pioneer Mixers
i don't really rate seratos fx that much, compared to how intricate you can get with traktors..
i use about 6-7 different effects with traktor... transponse stretch is insane

And a proper A&H mixer should set you back about 250 pounds new. You'll get the sexygod filter too

Re: Pioneer Mixers
Pioneer mixers are shit, fuck the 'club standard' bandwagon. The sound quality is below average. The faders are shitty and plasticy. The digital FX, contrary to popular belief, do not sound very good. When they clip they sound absolutely horrible. You can't scratch properly on the crossfader. The build quality is pretty shit. And they're massively over priced, which is pretty much the main reason to not buy one if you ask me.
Depending on budget:
Bare money - A&H / Rane
A little bit of money - Vestax / Ecler
Not a lot of money - save up until you have a little bit of money
Gwa you're brave going for the DB4 this early, they seemed to have rushed the design and testing of that mixer a bit according to what I've heard from employees.

You must've had a duff one! The build quality on A&H mixers, at least before they were made in China, is second to none (except maybe Rane).(Pada) wrote:A&H are good - but I don't trust the build quality!

Re: Pioneer Mixers
it's digital so the firmware can be updated, but i have read about it..
got some paper to burn and i don't want to waste it on shit. if it's fuckery then it won't lose that much value.
will give a report when it comes

A&H and Rane are about 350 squid apart from what I've seen. Both make great gear though.£10 Bag wrote:Pioneer mixers are shit, fuck the 'club standard' bandwagon. The sound quality is below average. NEVER buy a vestax. The faders are the biggest pile of shit ever.£10 Bag wrote:Pioneer mixers are shit, fuck the 'club standard' bandwagon. The sound quality is below average. ther flagship models are about the same price. $1300-$1500 depending.
Re: Pioneer Mixers
i promise they arent worse than behringers "ultra glide" faders.
they all near enough fucking silent all the way up to like 8 then its just 1000db out of fucking nowhere

Re: Pioneer Mixers
using a vestax now that's been rinsed, faders feel pretty light, sound is a bit wank. think it's time i got a xone 22

Re: Pioneer Mixers
True, I don't need built in effects or more than 2 channels for my home mixing so I just got the xone22.pkay wrote:AxeD wrote:

Re: Pioneer Mixers
Nowhere near you guys in terms of mixers but was wondering what you would recommend for a newbie? Was thinking of spending 200 quid max. Gemini seem to have some reasonably priced mixers but I have no idea what their reputation for them is.

that for one, isn't true£10 Bag wrote: You can't scratch properly on the crossfader.
.
one of my old housemates had a djm 800 and could scratch the SHIT out of it/with it... there's definitely some mixers you cant use to scratch but he managed fine on that...
in other news i played out on this

on friday night
and found out exactly what the fuck is wrong with the cue thing... took me the first 3-4 tunes to work it out so start of set was tricky, but once my ears had adjusted to what i could get out of the monitor/mixer i was fine and smashed it
LOL also turned up and

Re: Pioneer Mixers
got a djm600 at home and its pretty good. its super sturdy, got loads of features an was very cheap when i got it. obviously its not in the same class as a new A&H, but then to be fair thats so far out of my price range its not even worth thinking about.
if you want something good and long lasting i'd recommend it.
i know its been said already but its also dead handy when you go to a club/bar and they've got one. and if we're talking about the 'industry standard' thing should we bring up the vestax > 1210 argument. because i've used vestax before and they're a lot better then 1210's, yet i perceiver with my 1210's regardless.
