Honestly, now that I think about it. I think a 'friend' shared this with me. I opened the 'about' page on mine and it says 'registered to _____'. I have no idea who the person is.

So I guess that this was one of the programs that was just passed around back when I was in high school 8 years ago. I don't think that it's worth to pursue this further, unfortunately. It's already registered, but it's not to me so I think I'm SOL. Not that it cost me anything...

So I just got the MPK25 in the mail.

Tried it with ableton live and FL10 and I'm having a hard time assigning different pads to different sounds. Plus, there seems to be a pretty large delay between pressing a drumpad and having the sound 'fire'.

For instance, in ableton, I can get different sounds on the different patch, but there's a huge lag there.

In FL, I can have 10 different drum sounds open in front of me and not be able to play more than one at a time. Different pads just do different pitches.

Pads are pretty darn stiff too!

Any advice for any/all of this?

In addition, there were some great tutorial links floating around for ableton and FL. Anyone have those off hand? I'd love to just spend a weekend with a few tutorials to learn the basics and go from there, but I'm having trouble separating the signal from the noise.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the help!

in FL, you need to use FPC to use the pads. either that or do some complex business with layers

Sounds like it could be a latency issue - are you ASIO drivers up to date?

No idea. How do I check and install the up to date drivers?

Thanks!

Edit: Found a thread on the ASIO 4 ALL driver. Installed and selected it in ableton=AWESOMENESS!!!

Oh damn, you beat me!

I'll check that out.

Does anyone have any links to good tutorial video sites and stuff? I don't want to waste your time with stupid questions if I can follow along with some videos to learn.

Thanks for the help. Got it together in FL.

The stock ableton drum kit sounded kinda stale :/

Guess I can dig through some of the drum samples I have to put them through there. Now I need to figure out how to set this stuff up and how to make the pads more responsive. I don't think my fingers will be able to survive the onslaught.

I'm psyched!

Got up and running with the mpk and assigned the pads and everything. Now working on figuring out how to get the most out of the 12 pads, i.e. how to double up sounds on certain pads to get more intricate beats going.

Side note: Anyone have a rec for a basic microphone? I'm going to be using this in my room to record myself singing or slamming. It'll let me play around with some stuff and learn how to use the programs I'm playing with on my terms. I.e. record guitar, sing, and lay a drum track. I'll start on the basics and work my way up.

I want to get something decent so I don't get sick of it, but am I okay with just a mic plugged into my computer or will I need a mixer that the mic goes into, etc.

Thanks so much!

Edit: Also trying to play around with recording sounds like keys jingling in pocket (for a crash) etc. I'm also toying with the idea of making a 'beatbox drumset' and seeing how that sounds as I play with it.

so if its a paid FL Studio 3, isnt it free to upgrade to 10??

Not necessarily? The free upgrades for life only come with the digital version, not the boxed. I had a boxed FL 7 and had to purchase the life time free upgrades for like 35 bucks. Also, dunno if they've had that deal since v. 3
I have a boxed version of FL5 which says lifetime free upgrades on it, don't know if they integrated that with V.3 though, I think the exact words are "install now and get that latest upgrade free". Presumably you can download FL10, not just ask for a boxed version of it???

I must recommend the Blue Yeti. it doesnt cost much for the quality and its done very well for me.

Today was a productive day.

I bought that mic.
I learned how to record my guitar onto FL.
I recorded a short riff on there and saved the sample to play with it some more at a later date.
I found sytrus and came up with a melody while playing with it.
Recorded said melody and put a drum track on it.

On the agenda still is to keep playing around in there and learn to wobble.

Hah. Thanks!

I tried creating a loop out of the guitar track that I had made because it wasn't lining up correctly in FL. Any idea how to set it up so it goes seamlessly instead of having the awkward pause because of the way FL tiles are set up?

On that note (pun!), I messed up while making a loop once and it made this really awesome 'clicking-ish' noise. Can I somehow sample/save that so I can put it on the drum pad?

I was also trying to follow this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEBe6lkMEbk

And everytime I tried to record something, it went into the song playlist. Once that happened, my changing the 'cut' etc didn't do anything. Guess I have to learn automation next, huh :)

Yeah, thanks.

What I seem to be getting stuck on is the fact that I can record as audio into the song menu, but I can't do automation and score with my midi keyboard. No idea why it's not working.

All the tutorials I'm looking at for using sytrus to play with wobbles etc use the piano roll and I want to use the keyboard to be able to input commands on there.

I just read 2-3 different automation tutorials and when I hit 'automation and score' after clicking the record button, nothing happens...

Maybe I'm using the wrong term for it, but I want inputs from my keyboard to go to the piano roll.
