Reminds me of the DSF label dispute a while back haha. But this seems like the best way to proceed. Non-profit internet label. Well... At least for this one.

glad you want to help. If dubway says that we can't organize it here then we can't organize it here and will have to go elsewhere to talk about it.
I would like to keep it here so i can run stickies with polls so we can vote on what we want and keep it democratic. that's the only issue here. If dubway says no then we have to go elsewhere. Having it on-site it would make it a lot more visible and inspire a lot more participation.
there are plenty of ways around it, but let's see what dubway has to say first before we do things the hard way.

Do it elsewhere if DSF want to get complicated. Free music isn't a fucking commodity, this should be done for the love and nothing else.
Fuck lawyers and fuck doing things "by the book". Just fucking DO things. If you're so successful that someone gets upset you've got a GOOD problem.

So if we do make an album, with no wording relating to DSF or SNH, are we allowed to post it on here? Could we not just use the word Unofficial? That seems to work on a whole load of shit in life in general. There must be 1000's of copyright infringements on here a day?

Don't see why not, it's not like we don't spend the rest of the time posting up music that contains dodgy samples, copyright YouTube clips and bootleg mixtapes.

there was no dispute with the pressing issues label. the drama related to too many submissions, and people getting worked up because their submissions were rejected for the label. PI promoted their releases here. the forum was asked to vote on which release would go forward. emotions got high due to that voting system. with PI everything was done right. samples were checked. publishing was registered. all their releases sold out and even repressed. when we were a tiny forum with 2000 people, this sort of thing would not be an issue at all. now, its a different day.

of course you can post it here. the issue is if you want it officially released and promoted here. there's a reason we never hosted any audio on DSF. its a legal nightmare. our terms of use release us from any musical liability regarding what members post, or link via URL here. all the legal copyright entanglements are on you when you click submit. they'll also be on you once you upload to band camp/itunes/etc. now, an official release that DSF promotes officially, all the legal is on us. as an international site, DSF would be subject to international damages if we were held liable or taken to court over some movie sample or something.
a site like iTunes doesn't release music internationally. its because they have to comply with each countries copyright laws, and by complying, they limit in large margins the legal damages and lawsuits. even with all the fine print and disclaimers you agree to when installing their software, i'd bet that iTunes probably has hundreds of thousands of lawsuits all over the world over sample clearance. if you upload a podcast on to their servers, the fine print there is explicit regarding copyrighted material. by their rules the uploader is 100% responsible for legal liability.
if you can find another large music forum that officially releases free LP's of music directly from their site, I'd like to see it.

Surely having a few stickies does not make dsf officially connected and liable? As long as it is not called something like the dsf album it should be fine. besides it is gonna be non profit and a relatively low circulation, i doubt there is gonna be any problems.

let`s just get the music compiled and we can spam the world when it`s ready.
all this talk of finer points before the main idea is even a fetus.
