how does it make sense?Lichee wrote:this makes sense for those in long term employment who can work
It doesn't get them a real job, it doesn't help decrease real unemployement, it doesn't do anything to help our country's economy...
it's just a corrupt scheme to syphon taxpayers money off to large corporations, which wouldn't be so weird if it wasn't so damn obvious.
again, how does it make sense?
Re: Work for free or lose your benefits
let's be honest, what the fuck else are they going to do? My friends mum has sat at home on benefits watching tv for the past 10 years whilst my mum works her ass off everyday for the same quality of life. No matter what anyone says she will not get a job because she simply doesn't have to, the only way she will work is if you remove the incentive to not work, which is incredibly easy to get benefits. I'm not a standard daily mail reader who thinks 'benefits cheats rar rar rar', I grew up on a council estate and watched my mum go to work all day everyday just to earn a little bit more than the other mums who lived around us who did fuck all.
Also why should it help the economy? Why not the community, why can't they work in a charity shop or work as lollipop people or help the elderly go on day trips etc? Ye I don't agree with them working for Tesco or Sainsbury's that is bullshit unless of course you're guaranteed a long term job at the end of it, but if they can sit down in front of a tv all day like my friends mum, why can''t they sit down behind the desk of a charity shop all day?

on the other side of the coin to your story, a guy i worked with at my dad's restaurant, sudanese guy, was made to go work for Marks and Spencer for free, 9-5 6 days a week in order to get his benefits
this a) stopped him looking for other work
b) seriously pissed him off cos he was looking for other work and was simply unable to get it because of his background
c) benefitted no one but the chainstore
d) he was there DOING a job they needed doing but they wouldn't actually HIRE him to do the job and pay him full wage, so they make him do that for 2 weeks, he proves he has the skills necessary to do the job, they 'fire' him and get someone new in and do the same to them
you'll have all these people circulating these companies, working for free in roles which need filling but the chains dont want to pay someone a full wage to do them
its horseshit

I didn't really look into this enough lol, I just assumed it would be meaningful jobs that there are a lack of workers for.

Meaningful jobs usually require skills and training, not really compatible with this help-the-rich-quick scenarioLichee wrote:I didn't really look into this enough lol, I just assumed it would be meaningful jobs that there are a lack of workers for.

not really, I would say making sure kids don't get run over in places with really busy roads and no crossings is a meaningful job but requires no skills or qualificationscogidubnus wrote:Meaningful jobs usually require skills and training, not really compatible with this help-the-rich-quick scenarioLichee wrote:I didn't really look into this enough lol, I just assumed it would be meaningful jobs that there are a lack of workers for.

Indeed, but lollypop ladies are being fired all over the country... the government would rather people did the work for free, either by being forced in order to receive benefits or out of the goodness of their heart as part of the "Big Society".Lichee wrote:not really, I would say making sure kids don't get run over in places with really busy roads and no crossings is a meaningful job but requires no skills or qualificationscogidubnus wrote:Meaningful jobs usually require skills and training, not really compatible with this help-the-rich-quick scenarioLichee wrote:I didn't really look into this enough lol, I just assumed it would be meaningful jobs that there are a lack of workers for.

That's very true actually.

Re: Work for free or lose your benefits
If it hasn't been pointed out already, getting unemployed people to fill positions on zero pay also means that there's going to be one less paying job at that same business so essentially for each workfare role you get one slave and one more unemployed, so less tax revenue, less public sector jobs, rinse and repeat.
I'm not sure whether they're deliberately trying to fuck up the country or they're just unbelievably stupid - could be a bit of both to tell the truth.
