Sounds like I need to get hold of the Director's cutVilified, disregarded and worshipped in equal measure, Alien 3 is one of the most divisive franchise movies of all time. On its 20th anniversary Andrew Stimpson revaluates David Fincher's troubled directorial debut

Directors Cut is quality, recommend.

2
Number 1 was good, number 2 is one of my favourite films of all time.
I've got a swear jar built into my head atm, so I'll refrain from spiralling into mental poverty by commenting on any of the turds that were made after 2

I think 1 & 3 because they were scary. Haven;t watched them for yeeeeeeeeeears though.
Re: Which is the best Alien film and why?
I *literally* cannot understand people saying anything other than 1 & 2. Like, really.

I remember staying up to watch the first one at my nanna's when I was like 8 or 9. Made it to the chest-burster sequence and got scarred for life.
First is definitely the best - no other film manages to capture the horror in the same way.

First time I watched it, was up late by myself. At an ad break, got up to go to the toilet and trod on the cat. NOT. OKAY.

Re: Which is the best Alien film and why?
its was me.....it was the first one i watched (i was about 12) and at the time the CGI was really good. The story grabs you from the start where as the others take 30-40 mins before anything really happens. Dont get me wrong the others were great too but the plasticy costumes for the aliens just made me very aware they were actors.southstar wrote:1 person liked alien resurrection

So I ended up watching the special edition of Alien 3 last night, and I remember why I almost picked it as my favorite. The first one still has all those amazing theatrical elements and is the best in that respect, but on a more plot-driven basis, I think 3 is the strongest. It was the most interesting to think about, at least for me.

4th one was the first I've ever seen so I have a soft spot for it, but the 1st one is without a doubt the best. Totally psychological, it builds a tremendous feeling of dread throughout the movie.

Re: Which is the best Alien film and why?
I think while 3 gave you a better glimpse into the universe it all takes place in (and so is interesting on that account) what's so great about the first one is what it keeps concealed. You gradually build up this picture of a corporate space faring industry, but there's so much mystery shrouding everything. Anyone who's worked in an industrial environment knows that working in such a joyless or sterile place is bad enough, but to know that outside the factory gates is just the blackness of space sets a disturbing precedent in itself. And then this fucking abomination appears like you've never seen before in the most horrific "enter stage left" imaginable and you're like lolwutte.

Re: Which is the best Alien film and why?
Vincent Ward's proposed script for Alien 3 sounded like it had potential. It was going to be set on a partially wooden planet populated by medieval monks. Ripley would end up on the planet along with one of her alien friends. Hilarity would ensue.
