2011 highlights? What a year for albums....

Its just that his vocals are mad basic. No emotion. The melodies are all pentatonic, which is not a bad thing, except they are all pentatonic. Lyrics are basic. When you take away the beats (which I am pretty sure he didnt make) all you got is bad pop music. I like Katy B's album though.

Shabazz Palaces I think's my most listened to, think the FaltyDl was magnificent really enjoyed 93 Million Miles from Africa Hitech getting the Out in the Streets VIP with caveman on EP was cool, Kode9 was excellent though Black Sun took more listening to than Memories when it got there it stayed tho.

Made up with Zomby twice think Author is wonderful, Silkie's a boss and Pinch & Shackleton made a brilliant record. Thought J-One and Phaeleh released a couple of great records as well as some ridiculous mixes, Four Tet in particular.

Shapazzz Palaces seems so long ago that I forgot about it but it was a constant on my iTunes. Love it.
I forgot to mention ThunderCat Golden Age of the Apocalypse at first i didn't like it but I knew it was good. It didn't get the best reviews though. I guess it was just so smart that even critics weren't ready for it!

It's kinda taking a que from Clams Casino. How do you guys feel about The Vision? I think people were to hard on Joker.

Burial didn't really produce anything on that album, he just taught Jamie Woon a lot of production stuff and that's why he gave him credit as a co-producer. That's what Jamie said in an interview somewhere

If that is the case, seems weird that he named him as a co-producer on specific tracks, rather than the album as a whole. Not doubting you that he's said it, I just think it's weird.

Passed me By
From the fucked up intro that is "Signature", over the hazy melodic goodness of "New Grounds". The minimal tension of "North To South" crossing over into the deep funk of "Intermittent". The ruthless Dub sub bass of "Dark Details" into the lo-fi battering of "Execution".
Melancholic highlight of the year "Passed me By" will not be easily forgotten. "Stitch House" is another successful venture into funkier techhouse grounds. While closer "Love Nothing" certainly lives up to its name, it's a heartbreaker. All in all, for me the stronger half.

We Stay Together
"Submission" brings you in a state of indolent indifference, like sinking deep in warm water. Whereas "Posers" contrasts that with some of the hardest and edgiest Berghain depths. "Bad Wires", though not really innovating, is about the best dubtechno track I've heard in two years. Piece de resistance, "We Stay Together" (parts One/Two) don't match the first title track, but are of great melodic and rhythmic quality. "Cherry Eye" takes a long while to get going, but will reward you for sticking with it in the second half. "Cracked", though my least favourite of the entire release, still easily scores a 7/10, so you know it's all good on here. Bonus track "Work Gate" is what it is, a bonus track. Not as harsh, deep or experimental as the first half, but oh so consistent.

Mind you, most of these tracks meander about at a <120 pace, so there's loads of space, loads of sub bass and rhytmically, a good mix-up of (dub)techno and deep house. I think this is a milestone release in that particular area, that's been getting a lot of praise, but not as much as I'd like to see it get, it's really ground breaking in my book (especially considering the way he's come from his earlier work).

I can only recommend it warmly.

Bit of a late entry this one, only discovered it this last week but did anyone catch Deadbeat's album "Drawn and Quartered"? Absolutely incredible. Shows there's still a lot of room for innovation in dub techno if you're creative!
