Leeds is a lot bigger, so whilst it has a largrr city centre/more shops etc and also has bigger 'nice' areas the amount of poorer areas is increased too. I doubt that anyone living in Halton Moor or Seacroft lives in a much nicer place than anywhere in Bradford.(Pada) wrote:Leeds is a much nicer place to live than Bradford.hutyluty wrote: bradfords decent tbh, ive only ever been to the city centre but its no worse than any of the cities/towns up here really, even the ones with money ploughed in and a better PR campaign (Leeds/Manc)

Re: Gotta love Bradford..
As a young person from a rural area, I still don't get why people who aren't from London want to talk like they are from London (nothing against London mind). I think the complaint is that a lot of the people who try and talk like that are just middle class white kids (although obviously not all of them). To be honest it seems a bit of a shame that accents are probably going to get destroyed very quickly within the next few generations as everybody just tries to sound like each other...magma wrote:It was a general comment, not just based on this thread. We seem to be getting more and more people complaining about working class accents/dialects, especially London-based ones, and the behaviour of young people in general... considering this is a forum for a form of music that started within less-than-affluent areas of London, it seems worth pointing out how much people seem to be losing their way.Blenky119 wrote:How do you know they're poor?magma wrote:The anti-poor/young-people trend on this forum at the moment is deeply concerning. Lots and lots of attitudes you'd expect to hear from little Toryboys... not enough that you'd expect to see from friendly ravers. Our scene is supposed to be about an absence of cultural hate - it's not about deciding which elements of culture are "acceptable" and then taking the piss out of anyone that didn't get your memo. In fact, you even go so far to say they could all be murdered and nobody would care. Fuck that. That's disgusting. From the scene that champions Anti War Dub? Honestly..
That video looks like teenagers having fun... probably some of the first proper 'out on the town' fun they've ever had - leave them to it. Why are people so obsessed with making themselves feel better by bringing others down? Just get on with your fucking lives.

your opinion on inner city youth culture is about as relevant as Katie Price's is on Astrophysics
Re: Gotta love Bradford..
I was voicing my opinion on young people from rural areas who try and talk like they are from London. I am well aware that my opinion on inner city youth culture is worth jack shit, and was trying to get across that I thought that about everyone who is a young person from a rural area.noam wrote:the problem here is, you are a young person from a rural area.TL_ wrote:As a young person from a rural area, I still don't get why people who aren't from London want to talk like they are from London (nothing against London mind). EDIT: He did after all say that it was a general comment and not one related directly to the thread. And yes I realise I am shit at getting my point across.

having spent a considerable amount of time in cross gates, halton moore, etc, etc, i can safely say they're nicer areas than, for example, west bowling.hutyluty wrote:Leeds is a lot bigger, so whilst it has a largrr city centre/more shops etc and also has bigger 'nice' areas the amount of poorer areas is increased too. people have such a massive problem with people who dont fit the mould of how they believe everyone should be
its stupid, ignorant and is a flaw so many genuinely nice, good-natured people have and they dont even know they have it
'the problem is they're just white middle class kids' - right and ALL white middle class kids have to conform to exactly the same stereotype of a person
you realise how many people you are talking about, that section of society is enormous and within it there are more individuals and subcultures than you can fathom. by your own reasoning you're a kid from the sticks, what place do you have even listening to dubstep, a type of music which originated from the suburbs of a poor area of london which takes its influences from music of jamaican origin, music of inner city london, and far beyond?
the question as to why KIDS act like they do is because KIDS when they get to a certain age begin identifying with subcultures and sections of society and start building their own views and personalities for the first time in their life, that are somewhat free from the restrictions of adults
aside from reinforcing the view that people from rural area's are kind of unwittingly racist and misinformed you're also seemingly ignorant of the hypocrisy of what you're talking about
Ghetto Kyote, one of the biggest grime tunes of all time was made by a posh kid who studied classical music at a posh music school... go figure.
the beauty of the world we live in and our society is that these divisions can be broken down, so why reinforce stagnant, archaic stereotypes?

I was a young person in a rural area too, and the same thing happened back then... it wasn't cockney though, it was Americanisms because the US hiphop and skateboard scene was the dominant cultural trend for young teenagers... nobody bats an eyelid at saying something's "dope" or "sick" these days, but I'm sure people thought the same about us using them back then as they do about kids in the sticks saying "allow it" or "par" these days. It's just a symptom of a culture becoming mainstream. It doesn't mean they want to deal crack in Croydon, it probably just means they want to get with a girl who once said she liked Tinie Tempah. All the cool girls at my school liked LL Cool J... for some reason I ended up a hiphop nerd...TL_ wrote:As a young person from a rural area, I still don't get why people who aren't from London want to talk like they are from London (nothing against London mind). I'll shit on your doorstep and mine
Re: Gotta love Bradford..
I met a guy at a house party that studied at Westminster and lives in Notting Hill and he says 'fam' and 'allow' and stuff, it's just really awkward. He also produces 'folkstep' and thought wake and bake was shake and bake, but he doesn't judge and he's a proper sound guy. Furthermore on the whole stereotyping thing, I met an Iranian man the other night and he was seriously cool and was with a Swiss guy who was a giant cock. I've just stopped judging people lol
