Whats up. I know there's lot of people gettng into juke lately.. (my favorite variety is the footwork-jungle style) but for straight up juke/footwork, I thought I'd post this package of samples:
So, over at Bassadelic.com I do tutorials, reviews, articles, free mixtapes, and sample packs. This is a samplepack I created for footwork producers in search of some sounds and beats to help them with production. I'll get straight to the contents of this package below, and if you're interested, feel free to click the link and take a look. We keep our sample packs very reasonably-priced, as you'll figure out pretty quickly if you click on the 'store' tab of the site.
I think my attempts at footwork would come out much better if i wasnt obsessed with processing everything to perfection, gotta control myself and leave it raw

In the first video @ 2:00 Clent talks about a 'slowed down cowbell'
Then @ 3:00 he pitches up and down
In the second video of Manny you can hear it @ 2:20
If you listen to a lot of Teklife tracks this sound is used in almost all of them. Does anyone know how to get this sound. I've tried slowing a cowbell sample down but it sounds nothing like what he gets.

Yeah I assume its an 808 cowbell but I'm wondering how they get it to sound like the 'humm' Clent says its a slowed down cowbell. But like I said In the previous post I've tried slowing the cowbell down with audacity I've tried changing its pitch but cant get it to sound any where near what they get. So i was wondering if any one has tried this or knows how to get the sound.

well they are using samplers rather than audacity, mpcs have a pretty distinctive sound (some of them). audacity will just slow it down, no saturation or compression or owt wil be added.,

I dunno, I've literally JUST discovered Juke/Footwork from this thread (I dunno, I'm still confused regarding the difference but at least to me it seems Juke is the classic Chicago stuff while Footwork is the more IDM inspired stuff.) Admittedly I come from sort-of a Brostep background (yeah I know I suck lol, That's what you get for being 'murican), but I've also been into the Wonky/Future Beats/Whatever the hell they play at Low End Theory type stuff too.
I mean, from my position this stuff sounds like Flying Lotus with fast-ass choppy Aphex Twin drums (and in all honesty that's probably a religiousness way to phrase it), but I'm probably wrong but, I dunno
Like now I'm in this weird position where I want to try to do some kinda stuff like it, but I don't want to be seen as a trend follower who's just doing what everyone else is doing (cause like I've checked r/footwork and have just browsed around based on this thread and I legitimately think this is some fresh shit)? I dunno, I'm confused.

Damn so i probably cant get that sound unless i have an MPC, oh well I'm sure a sub bass can replace the sound anyways.
Too FatScout: To put it simply Juke is primarily more 4x4 but at 140-160 bpm similar too ghetto house and Detroit Jit. While footwork is an evolution of ghetto house that focuses on more syncopated rhythms. As for being seen as a trend follower if I was you I wouldn't worry about that kind of shit if you genuinely like something when you hear it, it really shouldn't matter what people say. Just make what you like, fuck all that elitist talk.
Also footwork isn't any where near being "fresh" or "new" its been around for at least 10 years and started getting spotlight around the time the record label Planet Mu started releasing footwork EP's and LP's. Although you could argue the sound is being more commercialized now because of the spotlight. A lot of the older footwork was more raw and specifically made for actual footwork battles.

Well, what DAW are you using? I mean I've heard you mention Audacity a couple of times but I mean come on, nobody could make a track in Audacity I think in Audacity try using the change speed one (to change both Tempo and Pitch) and an 808 cowbell, that should get you somewhere in the rage.
Also, welcome to DSF, lol.

I use ableton as my DAW and I have tried the change speed option on audacity but it just sounds like a growl. :/
Thanks this place is pretty cool!

For those who want even more background heres a really nice interview with Spinn and Rashad
Footwork production question here. I was listing to this Rashad track and I was trying to figure out how he chops up and stretches the vocal samples.
I'm pretty sure he is using a MPC which I don't have. (I use Logic) so maybe there is function he is using that I'm not aware of. Any idea how to do this type of vocal processing with the exs24?
Thanks.

to me it sounds like he cut the sample up to the parts with different start points, loaded that into the sampler and played a load of short notes

you dont really even need a sampler for that, just chop it up on the grid
