make something new

there is always new stuff, you just need to know where to look for it. a lot of the more creative people are underground at the moment, perfecting their crafts. they don't worry about promoting their songs or even uploading the songs onto the internet. these people love making music, not giving a shit if there is a single person to give them recognition for it.

i wonder what would happen if a big name producer and an underground producer did a collaboration. how would their styles mix? i think it will all come together with time and evolve into things unimaginable.

I agree, I think its worst than brostep, in the fact that they all seem to be trying to hold onto them golden years of dubstep, and them days are over time to look forward. At least brostep was something new for abit.

I'm sure there are... Ital Tek... Im not sure tbh I'm total out the loop, and listen to 40's jazz, 60's psychedelic, 70's funk 80's electro/techno, 90's dnb/idm, 00's dubstep (up to about 2008, apart from shit like Buiral, and James Blake), and some other shit thats old/not cool.

EVERYTHING is a bite off something else to some extent. Get over it and focus on making music that you like. And if other people like it too, all the more better.

there should be different genres. the dark shit is IMO more monotonus and repetitive and uniform than bro is anyway. complain about stuff sounding the same and then listen to 20 "deep dark cuts" that are 7 minutes of distant subs and repetitive drums... cmon... a lot of it is VERY similar and unimaginatgive, its no wonder people like the melt my face dubstep

there is good and bad in dubstep of all its subgenres

stop watching youtube tutorials on how to make basses and maybe you will make someting different?

God, screw all this DURRR LET'S CREATE YET ANOTHER GENRE. Every artist has their own style, just leave it at dubstep otherwise there'd be a genre for every single artist. It's just bullshit.

Wobbly dubstep gets old pretty quickly. I liked Rusko, Skream & Benga when I was 17, but now I can't listen to any of that type of sound for example.

Expand your tastes, go on boomkat.com and have a look round, you will find so much good stuff. Ever tried techno? Garage? House? How much are you actually listening to new artists? XLR8R.com is a great resource for new tunes, as well as subscribing to people on YouTube who are constantly upping the latest tracks from major labels.

It does make me wonder what people here actually listen to..........

i just hate face-melting squeals n screeches that have nothing to do with one another, juxtaposed and wedged in between two earth-shattering beats per bar, even if they're all layered with sub. shit's wack.

I completely understand why people hate them so much, but im still a sucker for them.

There's only two waves right now. Skream and shit like that, and Excision Datsik Flux Skrillex and shit like that.

- white noise layers in snares are much more annoying that 200hz boosts

I know it's only my opinion, but for me Skream is always pushing boundaries in dubstep. Sure people can rave on about Skrillex and whatever and it seems like he has made quite an impact on dubstep today, but when Skream released his 'Outside the Box' album I was really floored not only by how well it was produced but how musically consistent it was.

He took the roots of old-school dubstep and garage and breaks and used them in completely different ways - 'Where you Should Be' for example is so radically different, melodically and structure-wise from other dubstep yet it is such a distinctively dubstep and 140bpm song.

His stuff with Magnetic Man I've always found absolutely amazing as well, 'Perfect Stranger' for instance is such a great song and poppy but it's a fucking banger as well.

I think it just goes to show that you don't need to necessarily have the production chops of say Skrillex or Datsik to push boundaries. You can make new songs in terms of musical ideas and structures.

Obviously just my opinion though
