I've only been to Southern California - and I did not like it...

It was as if they built a bunch of really expensive shit in the desert...

LA was a festering pustule...



I really haven't seen enough to judge though...

its nothing special here, the beach is gross here. traffic everywhere, scumbag people (alot more than there should be).

Move to like oregon, or utah. At least they have nice scenery.

I always wanted to move to singapore.

lol singapore.. have you been there? if you like living under extremely harsh rules.. just a roach would probably do you a night in a cell and quite possibly prosecution.. nice city and all but theres a really strange sterile feeling about it.. its like all work and illusory play

Re: Singapore - yeah, plus caning is in their repertoire. Oh yes: drug trafficking is punishable by execution there too. While I'd never think of trying to smuggle drugs through a country like that in the first place, imagine getting framed.

yeah i know they have strict drug laws but its not a big deal to me. Just the "crime free-ness", even if it is a really weird feeling about it, to the common citizen it looks like they love it there.

I watch anthony bourdain traveling shows alot.

Big cities will always have a lot of hipsters. They're metropolitan.

if you liked the 'crime freeness' but still want to live a little i would recommend hong kong

for the most part Yes, but i loveeee Hollwood & LA for that matter. great weather, girls, bud, & for the majority of the time every1 you meet is friendly..every1 has egos out here tho, you kinda need one

Feel like you guys are making blanket statements for the whole area...like Knell said the areas vary greatly over relatively small distances. I personally love southern california : /, I live in Long Beach, and yes it's dirty/really ghetto in one area but you cross a street and it's hipster mecca, you cross another block and you end up in a fuckin mini-town that is based around a river where couples canoe through, drive down the street to see the college part of town, and it's all honestly 2 minutes away from the beach. I drive about 30 minutes NE every once in a while to go dirtbiking with my friends in the inland empire, then I come back west to LA and eat the greatest fucking fish tacos known to man. I work in Manhattan beach and it's one of the nicest most movie-esque little towns I've ever been in. Sorry for the glorification but yes, I love it...and San Diego is one of the more fun cities as well, scenic, beautiful woman, and not as much assholes as you would think. I met a lot of cool people there, and in San Francisco as well...both really beautiful cities. I go to San Diego regularly to hang out with some of my friends who go to UC San Diego and there is soooooo much to do down there...They have their bad parts but which cities don't?

What college were you planning to go to again? cause i am going to cal poly pomona in the fall, but i also got accepted into UC Davis and UC Irvine and I am probably the least well-rounded person known to man

EDIT: also oh hyes if you don't like people with big egos etc. stuck up i would advise staying away from Orange County (Irvine, Huntington Beach, Anaheim) those places are beautiful with lots of stuff to do (DISNEYLAND ) but just not my style of people... also all the beach cities along the coast (except probably Long Beach port area) are really nice and fun, there's just a certain kind of ... people that hang around there

2nd addendum: also pretty cool EDM scene here if you're into that....if you ever decide to come down to long beach within the next couple months i can show you around.

San Diego! SDSU Less populated, less polluted, beaches that you can actually drive to in less than ten minutes. Music scene is hit or miss. Laid-back. You have to have an attitude to live in LA. I'd rather bring my attitude over the weekend than live it all the time. SF has everything too except the sun doesn't shine on them as much as Socal. But yeah, Cali is still the best place to live in the US for me. I do love Seattle/Portland and NYC but the latter is just too expensive and you gotta have an attitude there as well.

Edit: Disneyland! It's a lie when Cali heads, particularly Socal heads, tell you they don't love DL. It's a guilty pleasure.

I would go sf. It's big enough tag you shouldn't be worried by the Hugh incidence of 'hipster' which is in actual fact no huge bad thing - its the status quo these says - really wouldnt worry about it. Sf you dont explicitly need a car- bike it! - beautiful city and surrounds. I used to live in Berkeley went to ucb and it was best tbi g I ever did tbh its a fairly international city anyways so you will def totes meet hipsters from Europe lol. StoP worrying and go IMO.

wouldn't encourage you to move to LA as a 1) student 2) person without a car 3) person who dislikes warm weather 4) person who dislikes pompous attitudes

not a big fan of southern california for living but SF is one of the only places in the states i'd consider leaving london for, incredible place.
portland is very nice too, but not the spot if you care about being surrounded by hipsters.

also check vancouver and montreal, amazing cities and tuition would be far cheaper than in the states

I grew up in the Bay Area and went to school down in Los Angeles..living in Seattle now for the time being.

For bass music, LA is the spot on the west coast. You'll have the biggest range of acts coming through on a regular basis and will always have some sort of dubstep/bass event to attend. Low end theory was revolutionary for me However, you will have to deal with some of the worst traffic in the world. The city is so spread out and everyone has a car, so it takes ages during rush times to get anywhere. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is something to think about because the traffic is atrocious. I met a lot of good friends and a lot of douche bags that "live in la bro" and have a southern california/hollywood mentality which is pretty douchey.

The Bay Area is my favorite place in California, and since I've moved I have heard that the bass scene has been picking up (reason why I want to move back). IMO people are in general more focused on seeming intelligent and kind than in Southern California but you will still run into plenty of "hipster assholes" (like you will in any big city). The traffic gets bad, but public transportation in the Bay Area is better than any city I have lived in, and there are so many unique neighborhoods/cities all w/i an hour of each other.
