google "metallica death magnetic loudness war" and you might understand
LOL dude, I know exactly where you are coming from. I've already seen the vids. I've already read up on the loudness war, and all the haters out there who think that music is "dying" because of it. At the end of the day, you're just another hater. I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Worry less about what other people do, and focus on your own game.
Funny that you say that considering you were the one who started this argument in the first place by making presumptions about the OP's intention in posting this.

Also, you're not just being presumptious, but you're being rude and irritating by trying to make yourself superior.

Condensed version:
OP: Hey guys look at this waveform
Others: Yeah it's been brick-walled and the mastering is pretty bad
joshisrad: Stop trying to be jealous and act like you're superior!
Basic A: We're not jealous, excision's a good producer, we're just talking about the mastering job
joshisrad: NO you're jealous
OP: It's nothing to do with the song but the mastering job
joshisrad: that's because you're jealous

(again in between hypocritical comments about "stepping up your own game" and "doing your own thing" which joshisrad clearly is better than everyone else at since he has time to go on here and grace us with his divine, master skrillex-wobbling, limiter-cranking presence and tell off respected forum producers)

Not heard this track, but in theory;

Still won't do anything about the loss of dynamics, surely?

lot's of people listen to their music on youtube and shitty earbuds, it doesn't mean music should be mastered for them since they don't point out the problems with a brickwall that good pair of headphones or speakers will

no it won't and i'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic in his inital post this is from

processing dynamics with any tool be it a compressor, expander, gate, limiter is a destructive process where as adjusting the gain isn't

Personal audio devices will soon come with software expanders to psychoacoustically reintroduce dynamics into what will have become frequency modulated squarewaves (what we used to call songs).

I think some people here need to go and read a bit about compression, dynamics and listening fatigue. No, you can't just turn the volume down once a tune has been heavily limited, it'll just look like a smaller brickwalled waveform. You won't get the dynamics back.

And whether you know it or not, your ears don't like a heavily limited tune.

I'm not even sure if excisions engineer is to blame, perhaps he wanted it made this loud? Maybe it works well on the dance floor?

this isn't about how a waveform looks, the pic of the waveform is a clear indicator of brickwall limiting, which you can also pick out with your ears
no one is bashing on the content of the tune, just the poor mastering job

its not even a poor job by the ME its a disappointing trend in the scene(s)/industry. That ME basically did their job right.

The attitude and reality of "Loudness Sells" is the culprit here. That's bollox. What sells is the ability to hijack the attention spans of little shit for brains teenagers who get hard from the filth wars. They can't be sold something that doesn't compare to the loudness/upfront-ness of today's smashed mixes. Their attention can't be commanded by dynamic recordings anymore. And this isn't a filth vs. deep comment, it has nothing to do with the sounds and composition. Although there is a correlation.

"If it's too loud, turn it down" is fucking idiotic. Because we don't want to turn down the whole track, we want the record to have more space between the quietest and loudest points/elements. We consumers face a tradeoff between loudness and dynamics, and the mainstream shit-mind has decided we lean toward the Loudness end of the spectrum. That's an idiotic choice, because we can always TURN UP our playback device. But we can never un-squash a shit-squashed master. Turning it down doesn't do that.

aka you can't get the flour out of a baked cake.

Excision is a genius.
he's other tunes are perfectly mastered, im sure that this is what he was aiming for this time.
he's raising the bar....upgrading his game..........

I don't know what you all are going on about. I listened to it on my beatz by dre headphones that my parents bought me for mixing, and the sub sounds huge! stop hay-in'.
