I've been on a purple vibe recently haha, check the soundcloud!
You're on the money with the artists you've mentioned there, and someone already popped in and mentioned kavsrave's EP. Can't remember if anyone mentioned mimosa though?! Worth checking out .

hi, i lurk here all the time and rarely post.
i'm guess you could say i'm new.
i've seen and heard the phrase purple all over, and kind of get it. i was under the impression it ment that sweet vibrating sega genesis type of sound. not sure how accurate that is though...
was wondering if i could be made clear on the actual definition without getting flamed.
ps- this fourm is awesome. as a native new yorker, aside from dub wars which happens once in a blue moon, i was wondering what other resources there were for me to find dubstep that doesnt make me feel like i'm in the middle of the texas chainsaw massacre. this forum has literally blown the doors open for me, but i'm looking for as much as i can get.
EDIT: nevermind, i kind of just read page 2 upon realizing it existed, forgive me.
if you like "purple" you might like sqweee, its got alot of the same sounds but with more of a hip hop/ funk influence http://skweee.com/

huh?
im sorry but how can you not understand that ? haha bassicaly i was wondering what purple dubstep is, and why its called that, but dw, i think i understand !
Purple is tuneful, soulful grime music basically. I think it was Joker who coined the term.
And he took it from the G-Funk era, which is huge on the purple sound.
Try listening to the 2000f feat. JKamta tracks, they are a bit purple. Also listen to Raw Love 09 by JSL, that's some purple wobble for ya. But the thing is many producers are starting to make some tracks sounding a bit like this. Like for instance "where you should be" by skream on his new album is a bit more synthy than his other work. Also his remix of night by night might be cool to check out. Otherwise listen to silkie and quest, they have some a bit deeper stuff which might be interesting. Otherwise just watch out for the stuff coming out of Bristol.

yes yes! I feel pixel rainbow sequence was somewhat overlooked, absolutely incredible tune with peverelist treating us to a very out-there remix to say the least
and the anticipation for phoenix is killing me. it hurts...help..

Im quite unsure as what to concider 'Purple' Dubstep, But i'm guessing its just the tunes with the deep vibes and great synths.
Would Boxcutter be concidered Purple?
maybe some of The Widdler's tracks?
Sub Version?
Just a few guesses.

thread about this tune came up yesterday, forthcoming on dub police
I like it. Although the wobble is not too up front in the mix, it sounds kind of cheap and just unnecessary. Pretty sure I'd like it more without it.
It's still pretty cool though. I know Dub Police has put out several different sounding records, it'd be pretty awesome if they abandoned the 'boring electro wobble' altogether.
