But the meme is a reference to something, not the actual picture or joke that references the meme. Some of these pictures don't even reference memes at all.

a meme is an idea that sticks with people and gets shared to the point where it has a degree of ubiquity and a behavioral pattern of its own
almost like an organism reproducing and mutating

a picture with words on it is a caption, or a comic. Which can be or become memes .... but they aren't the same thing

the meme, however it's represented, is the mildly entertaining concept of how such a small realization can turn a frustrating session of clicking and turning knobs into an enjoyable brockout wobble fest
