So, after a few weeks of DJing, I've decided to ditch all my crappy youtube rips and support the artists I like.

Just today I bought 50 Tracks of Tempahttps://bleep.com/release/37960, Kode9 - Backwards/9Samurai, and Youngsta - Masai Mara. After thorough listening, I've realized how much better WAV sounds over crappy youtube rips. The tracks have so much more space, and so much clearer.

Does anyone have any good compilation suggestions? I'm looking to replace tracks and get some brand new ones, so it makes sense to buy in bulk (saves money too!). Please post links if you have them. I've been eyeballing some of the Tectonic Plates releases, but I can't decide which I want to pick up, probably Best of Tectonic Part 1 (2005-2009) https://bleep.com/release/30643.

Quite a few labels have done compilations.. hotflush - back and 4th, R&S - IOTDXI, 5 years of hyperdub, hessle audio - 116 & rising as well as the ones above.

Just look at the labels you like and see if they have any compilation albums. Trust me its much more enjoyable finding new tunes/albums/compilations on your own rather than going through a list people have told you. Using discogs is a good way to find stuff, I've found no end of stuff by clicking on random producers I like and then going on various different labels they've released on and see what else the labels put out.

If and when I stumble across something interesting, find its the easiest way not to miss something.

To be honest, vinyl prices are cutting it fine with me now, seem to be a minimum of £7 now, whereas there were £5/6 vinyl more often than not not so long ago. Doesn't help that near enough everyone on discogs seems to have upped their shipping to £4 for the first record. Really don't want to give it up, but I've become a lot more selective (which is a good thing to be honest).

Yeah quality control isn't really as important with digital, it's so easy just to buy songs but tis different with vinyl I reckon.

yeah i've just got into the world of vinyl so i knew what i was letting myself in for really, ive deffinitly been approaching track selection differently though- only buying stuff that i know im going to latch onto for ages
with digital i tend to settle for throw away tracks

Just picked up Deep Medi Releases 1-3, great compilations that are totally worth the money.

I had a question about chiptune songs, the kind created with 8 or 16-bit audio sources. I downloaded a handful of free EPs from Jahtari (http://www.jahtari.org/music/net7inch.htm) that are all different kinds of bitrates; 64, 180vbr, 192kbps. Since it is normally out of the question for a DJ to use anything less than 320kbps live, does that factor in when the audio you're playing is so.... basic? Essentially, would it be ok to play out a 192kbps chiptune, due to the dynamic limitations of these kinds of sounds?

Do you guys think its more beneficial to stick with a shit mixer in the beginning? I've had turntables about 6 months now but because theyre at home and I'm at uni I've only been able to use them properly for a few weeks. Got to a point where I have more than enough varied music to properly learn to beatmatch and mix. Anyway because I've had them for so long I've really wanted to upgrade my shocking mixer to something decent with effects and whatnot... however I'm starting to think it'd be better to stick with a shit mixer for now so I'm forced to perfect the basics. With a shocking mixing all I can really do is beatmatch 2 tunes as best as I can, try get a long blend and practice EQing properly.

I'm thinking if I upgrade my mixer I might start pissing around with effects and stuff, make better sounding mixes but technically they aren't as good and it could prolong my progress.

most effects are useless anyway... only thing i'd use would be a filter, but i played only on pioneers so far and the filter is... well... shit.
I'd stick with the basic mixer for a while

i wouldn't worry too much about effects, but i would start saving up for an upgraded mixer. you would be surprised how much of a difference better knobs and faders make.

What equipment do you use?

sl 1210 mk2
sl 1200 mk2
2 x cdj 1000 mk3
xone:92
KORG SDD-1000 rack delay unit

Any planned equipment upgrades/changes?

Maybe some more subs for the home system

What songs are you rinsing lately?

Brink - Puppeteer
Barrington Levy - Vibe is Right
Wayfarer - Fall of the Zulu
TMSV and Compa's remixes of Dem a Talk

Have you DJed any large events?

Nope, do some live video streams for friends sometimes.

What other DJ's have you worked alongside, and who was your favorite to work with?

Just some friends.

What is your most memorable experience?

Just some good mixes really.

Do you produce in addition to DJ, or does producing take a front seat to playing out?

I try to produce but usually I'd rather spin.

Do you mix in key?

Not really, mostly just try and remember or imagine what mixes well together.

Do you DJ any other genres besides dubstep?

Nope, have some funk and 130 records that I play though.
