Re: Sample Pack contest 37 - roll call...
Um, question...
Massive participation is AWESOME.
However, we've run into big big problems in the past where - due to hosting constraints or whatever - if you have a long, fixed list of songs, inevitably the songs farther down the playlist get fewer and fewer people actually listening to them, which makes voting unfair (like song #1 will get 700 listens... #7 gets 400... by the time you get to #14 it's 102 or something.)
Should we:
A) cap the number of entries
B) address this with some kind of randomization (which has been talked about but never achieved due to soundcloud, et. al. not offering this feature)
C) not do anything at all like usual and wind up with a total clusterfuck battle royale and lots of hurt sphincters after the fact?
I mean, we're probably looking at something in the ballpark of 30 songs right now. Unless you're limiting their length to <3:00 (which has been done in the past, but with much whining) you're talking about listening to what, 3 or 4 hours of tunes based off one sample pack?
Does anyone else remember this shit at all?

Re: Sample Pack contest 37 - roll call...
depending on how many entries, how about putting only a couple songs out for voting everyday and not all at once? that way people will anticiapte the second part of voting?

i agree with alpha, though i know for a fact i myself would just hit play and let them all play out while i do my homework or play borderlands or some shit, its likely not everyone will be patient enough to listen through all the songs. but we also have to keep in mind that not all the entrants will for sure submit their track, as shit tends to happen. i dont have any suggestions aside from what alpha said. my addition to the issue

Re: Sample Pack contest 37 - roll call...
i highly doubt that it will be 30 tunes in the end

Re: Sample Pack contest 37 - roll call...
If we do end up with a shit ton of entries, split it up. say there is 32 songs.
4 groups of 8.
Run the voting system a couple days for each group and dwindle them down until your left with 8
just an idea, doubt we will get THAT many entries but weirder shit has happened.

Had a brainstorming session with a bottle of wine after Ikea last night and this is the approach I'm probably leaning toward. If we have, say, 32 entries we can do heats/group stages (like the world cup) and have the top two from each group going through to the elimination stages etc etc.oprs wrote:If we do end up with a shit ton of entries, split it up. say there is 32 songs.

Will have to work on scaling etc but this could work and work well.

All names updated...artwork has been selected...we're nearing go time...

Re: Sample Pack contest 37 - roll call...
Nowaysj objects in the strongest possible terms to the inclusion of his name in this thread, and further with the particular derogatory implications of Alphacat's statement. This issue will be taken up in a special session of the UN security council where sanctions will be imposed. If sanctions are ineffective in modifying Alphacat's roguish behavior a coalition of the willing will be assembled and operation Infinite Justice will be brought to bear on Alphacat's worn out poop shoot in a repeated and nonlubricated manner.alphacat wrote:Nowaysj knows

I'm glad this was easily addressed. I remember that this suggestion (playoff format) was fielded before and not taken well for some reason. Glad to see sanity prevail and all that. Been doing these since #3...

You talk big Mr. Sowf Bay, but methinks the strength of your flotilla isn't concomitant with such large talk. Further, my poop chute agrees: you're bluffing. I scoff at UN security sanctions. They cannot have my jenkems!nowaysj wrote:Nowaysj objects in the strongest possible terms to the inclusion of his name in this thread, and further with the particular derogatory implications of Alphacat's statement.
