My machinegun basses are either filter and/or volume automation with a ramp down lfo, or I just chop midinotes and use a transientshaper + distortion.

In the following track the drop contains midinotes playing a synth with a short attack. outside of massive there's just a wow filter

I finished the track with the machinegun sound i posted earlier.
Here it is. Just subtle changes with the layering can give decent results.

Work on your mix. It's hella muddy.

As soon as the drums came in the intro I lost track of the track

care to share any info? to get those triplets did you just use short stuttering notes or is it a performer thing?

Ok, the best way of doing this is playing notes in a 1/12 pattern. And, guess what? the secret to the sharpness is GUNSHOTS! it's called a machine gun bass for a reason! take gunshot sounds, distort then if you need, and line them up to the notes of your bass. it's easy and is still heavy!

This guys got it. He's got the best way. Just go shoot a school and sample it and then layer.
Good patch and some chopping/layering with a transient shaper makes some decent sounds.

I have even done this myself back in the day, Gunshots, Claps, or any other sort of banging sound will make the bass more sharp and "Sadhu" like

I'll release my Remix of Getter's "Fallout" track soon, which shows how this method makes an impact on the bass.

EDIT: I actually have a REALLY old preview of the track, its terribly mastered, but whatever, still enjoyable: https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Public/G ... k9cILInpbA

sorry if I'm late to the party but I've been trying to make the sounds based on the info in a few threads and this was the closest one to now I could find

Soundcloud

did you layer them with actual machine gun sounds? it sounds pretty good, but it could use some more slam, if you know what I mean. What I do is that I layer a massive patch with some machine gun sounds. eq them together and whatnot and boom. I think I can get pretty close.

Woah, man.
That bootleg is better than the original, yeah I layered it with a machine gun sound with sampler, trick I learned here on DSF, I cant seem to get the basses to sound full, they are usually really empty like the volume automation takes too much away from the sound, if you could do a tutorial on those things or further explain what you did to make that bass that would be unreal

fantastic work, really

Thanks man. I appreciate it. :D

The massive patch I layer my machine gun sounds with is just a single osc with crush on it, phase modulation on it with an LFO. An LFO on the amp and the wt. And 2 double notch filters with no modulation on them.

1 oscillator? Maybe thats my problem, when I try to recreate these sounds I usually use like 3 oscilators and sometimes multiple instances of massive, maybe I'm just being excessive.

Mind sharing which WT was on oscilator 1?

EDIT: Just whipped this up using your advice: 1 oscilator and bitcrush, with a good few distortion plugins layered with a seperate sub at the same rate both performer and LFO

That sounds pretty sick dude. I already stated that the WT I used is Crush or Crusher or whatever it is called :D

Now all you need to do is layer that sound with the sounds of an actual machine gun. Eq and all that to 'glue' them together.

this is what I came up with after using tips out of this and some other related threads :t:
the bass is a bit to wide for my taste, guess I have to clean it up a bit

WHAAAT!
I read this thread but I haven't gotten anything close to this.
Can you explain how you made it?
