That epiphanous moment when your own mind reveals something really funny in the driest way...

not really, for some pieces it's like asking if a sine wave playing for 2 seconds every 3 minutes for an hour is music.

yeah for some pieces, and your welcome to question whether they are art or if that is music but it doesn't say anything about abstract art or electronic music in general.

No analogy is perfect but I think that one is pretty good, specially considering there is a degree of abstraction to most electronic music.

anyway this discussion is a couple of centuries too late and even then it was silly.

lets just look at pictures

Kandinsky is one of my favourites, think he was inspired alot by music aswell.

Bun Kadinsky man, all his stuff looks like an opening screen for Encarta.

Read about how loads of the impressionist artists had eye problems that probably meant their paintings where closer to what they actually saw than we think.

I went to one of the gallerys, and there was a bin that they had to put some barrier around cos it was actually a piece, and people kept putting rubbish in it thinking it was a real bin :cornlol: :cornlol:

maybe that was the intention, that people would mistake it for a bin & contribute to the piece?

Are the two Turners that have been posted considered abstract? They look pretty realistic to me, if a bit stylised. You know, sorta like a photo captured through a number of lenses, filters, blurry glass panes and then processed in a certain way. Wouldn't a photo like that be just considered photography instead of abstract photography?

why would they put a barrier round it though? just had a couple bits of gum stuck to the bottom of it

At the same exhibition, there was like some clothes on show and a live model just standing there wearing one of them. Turns out she was only there for a couple hours one day a week and happened to be the time i was there.

I had fun in the art museum just last week - I took one of my little cousins Jacob - a 6 year old...

and in the Duchamp room - They have that piece set up where you have to peek through a hole in a door...
and it a voyeuristic thing - you see some gash...

and I spent like 20 minutes in there with him going back and forth...
him wanting to see - then not wanting because he was "scared"...

I told him I'd lift him up if he really wanted to know...

but we decided to go back next year instead - and maybe he would be ready to see then...

I was laughing the whole time...

He loved the Cy Twombly room...all kids seem to love Cy Twombly

this is exactly where we were sitting...
