I think this is an FM8 patch actually. I have a suspicion that most of everything you hear these days coming from Skrillex is out of FM8 so that means Zomboy is the same. Massive kicks out too pure of sounds...if you listen, there are a ton of those FM specific sharp harmonics on the top end. It sounds to me like an FM8 YOIEEE that isn't moving much with a lot of de-tuning. The "LFO" part of it sounds like the envelopes in FM8 as well.

I was playing around in FM8 and have something close but not quite. Do the FM8 patch for the top end and then layer a sin sub bass under it.

FM8 Settings (top end):

F = Sin Wave. Ratio = 0.9850. Rout into X for additional grit
E = 2nd Formant. Ratio = 1.5870. Feed that into F at 27. Feedback E into E at 23
D = TX Wave 2. Ratio = 4.55. Feed into E at 21.

The trick is to soften the envelopes with a little upwards slope on F, E, and D. No need for LFOs I don't think.

^Why should he? Those tutorials are sort of interesting actually, they get very close to many sounds.

Name one track where Skrillex uses that sound? He uses similar sounds in all is fair, but they're nowhere near as good as terror squad....

Honestly I'm sick and tired of the Zomboy sampling jokes. We get it, he samples thing here and there. Doesn't really degrade from the quality of his music imo.

Dude you realise he essentially copied the sounds and format of Skrillex's "Untitled DJ Tool", which Skrillex then went on to release using the tongue-in-cheek title of "All is Fair in Love and Brostep".

Skrillex apparently played him the original track at his home before either of them got released, Zomboy claimed he must have subconciously copied parts of it hah.

Not saying it degrades the quality... but copying another tracks sounds and format is just a bit lazy imo.

Sorry to necro this thread; but tried to give it a shot too..

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/n5i ... titled.mp3

You can tell it's not even close, but at least the phase movement's there.

Here's the problem; I can't figure out how to make the patch more tonal + 'thinner' than it is; which would make this closer to the original.

If it helps, patch was made with Formant-Square (which doesn't really matter), 2 P Shapers and LFO on the phase (+36.00, this is pretty much the sound's character)

Any help would be appreciated!

Note: Like Banesy said earlier, this would probably be ten times easier in a FM synth; but trying to get to know Massive better, it'd be nice to know how to fix issues like these in one synth before trying out others.
