No hell no. Moving further away from what I'd like to see. I thought they were going to jump on this wave of chinese analog. As always, I'll wait to see what's going on. I have very successfully beat back my gear lust. Room treatment and good monitors are really all I need at this point. Both unfortunately out of my price/safety range at this time.

The 303 clone could be dope if it sounds right. With that, I also fully support them marketing it as a 303 follow up.

But the other stuff just seems to be a cheap marketing ploy. Korg is dominating their market so they're trying to use legacy to one-up them on just another generic drum sampler/sequencer.

I doubt this does anything that a cheap MIDI controller + D16 plugs couldn't already do.

If there were midi controllers with one to one functionality with d16's drum machines, that'd be soooooo dope.

Some day I am going to put in the time to map Maschine to the D16 909. But with Gold Baby samples i my library cant really be bothered with it...lol


While I realize its Roland and they could easily screw the pooch...I am willing to withhold final judgement until we really get something concrete. I own a lot of analog gear but I am not willing to shit on Roland just for not jumping on the Nu Analog craze.

Just buy an analog filter and run everything through it ;p Mode Machines make two nice looking clones, you can get a Filter Factory for peanuts (the cost of a decent VST synth).

Anyway....Im still curious what they are going to do with this new sound modeling technology they were blathering about.

I've gotta say, it doesn't look like they cut many corners. Looks impressive to me. Guess we will see in the coming weeks how they perform.

Not overly impressed, style wise, they look like they have been made by the prop department responsible for that god awful Batman & Robin film, the fact they are not analogue also is a let down.

Curious...why is everyone disappointed they arent analog? They would cost twice as much more than likely. Would any of you consider buying one if they were analog? Seems like most people on the production forum are on the all software path anyway. Just really curious about these strong opinions on the matter of them being analog from mostly/all software people : )

Because when you hear 303 and 808 you automatically think "analogue". Not "cheap digital thing trying to compete with Korg"

Will be retaining full judgement until i've heard them, but from what i've read today the TR-08 sounds quite impressive. I don't care if it isn't analogue as long as it sounds good.

The new aira 303 looks a bit weird with the touch screen, i'm not particularly bothered about it as i've got a X0Xbox anyway

I love that way they look but I cant see a real use for them or myself buying them.

All I want to know is what System-1 is all about. Hopefully SonicLab will do a review soon.

Fair play. Everyone does think analog when they think about these machines, I am sure. So that might be failure from a marketing standpoint. But is there a practical reason?

Not sure where cheap comes from, but I havent been following the Aira series that closely. Unless you mean cheap as in...like a bad ripoff just to try and get some of the Volca market?

I think when a company is so well known for something then there is hype about them reissuing one of their classics, and what is eventually released doesn't bear a whole lot of resemblance to the original, there is going to be some backlash.

I second that. I dont feel we need analog with todays tech.

I get what you're saying though Wub. If movies are anything to go by the sequel is never as good as the first. I bet they still fly off the shelfs.

Makes sense I was pretty surprised myself there were not any kind of analog sound shaping options on these boxes, given what is out on the market. I guess I was really just curious if it was more than general disappointment based on expectations.

That dj tech tools vid made that shit sound so thinly digital. Using a really piercing bitcrusher through the whole video didn't help.
