I get a bonus on Friday so am really excited to be getting my first monitors. I could afford the RP8's so just wanna know if there's a massive difference between them and the RP6's...?

I think there will be substantial difference.

Although the RP6's are very good, a bigger cone size such as 8" will make the difference in any monitor make. The lows / Low mids will be clearer and the frequency response on the sub frequencies will be a lot better.

I have and love the samson Rubicon R6a's and they sound amazingly detailed with their ribbon tweeter, but they do lack that extra bass you find with bigger cone sizes regardless of the make.

So, I've bought yesterday a pair of Adam A7, those are my first monitors, they are really impressive to me, but they surely lack sub... so I'm thinking about buying additional sub woofer. Wich one is good for $500-$700?

Ask ADAM what they advice, as it's supposed to work in conjunction with you nearfields...

thanks i got it now

now can you please tell me or forward me to an info if to say Senheiser HD-25 headphones can be or can be not used as a substitute for monitors. what i want to know is whether i can use them for mixdowns and production as much as i can use monitors. thanks.

I got a pair of Senn HD-600s based on the recommendation of the production bible. They're amazing except for the shitty cable that started breaking before it was even 6 months old. But it's replaceable!

Yup, I use them for everything. I'm in a dorm, so I don't have the luxury of being able to blast monitors whenever I want.

I'm going to be getting a MacBook Pro soon and I already have powered monitors, Event TR6. I had them plugged directly to my Mac tower before via a 1/4 to stereo 1/8 Y cable. However, lately, I've gotten a buzzing sound. I'm plugging it straight to the Mac 1/8 headphone jack.

So, can I plug the speakers straight to the laptop? I figure I don't need some kind of external mixer since I'm going to be doing everything digitally, in the comp.

hey guys i read through the whole post, very informative thanks a lot! just a couple things that need clarification and maybe a few recommendations....

ive decided to obviously buy monitors to replace my logitech 5.1 surround SPEAKERS! yes (why would he upgrade you say!?) :t:

i have a toshiba satelite laptop, looking for monitors around $500US, any recommendations?id be using them for both mixing and producing, the first post was helpful but i was unsure on a couple of issues i heard ppl talking about having studio monitors and also a sub attached to them? dont they put out enough bass?

i only have the normal earphone jack input on my laptop so is that going to be a problem at all? can u buy good external sound cards for laptops for productions sake?

thanks guys

@dizzy035

- yes, you can buy a soundcard for a laptop. 'Soundcard' is an old term - most are now external USB or Firewire interfaces.
- You might be able to get a pair of KRK Rokit 6s for around $500. I don't own them, but they're very popular.
- personally, I'd make purchases in the following order: soundcard, monitors, room treatment, sub (if you're still convinced you need it).

Hope that helps!

You can't.
Why cant you?

You can use anything you like! as long as you are use to hearing music on the headphones/monitors in question then you are generally fine unless we are talking about £4.99 headphones.
