I'm always torn on fuck on stuff like this

ehbs what do you reckon you would do if the sort of shit you see in the videos was happening around where you live? Would you go out and shout marxist theory at the cops like? Or would you be scared, hide indoors and wish it would be over? Not tryna diss you like, but for real.

Is that irrelevant? Do you acknowledge that you have a position in society that needs a good smashing like, even though you wouldn't "enjoy" the process?

Hark

Its tough to put myself in these people's situation because as a middle class white suburban kid, I've never really had any run in with the law that would warrant a riot. That being said, if someone I know was killed by the cops while he was complete unarmed, I'd like to think my community could rally together to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. But the thing is, say my cousin (who's white) gets killed by the cops in the scenario I described. While I'd fight for that cop to be striped of his rank and pay and the whole nine, It's a very different situation than Baltimore.

For someone who's country claims to have created the language we all use, you seem to not have a good grasp of it any time theres a substantive debate here.

I think ultra has a point. We should employ the tactics of the BPP to combat the police.

of course no one wants it to happen in their backyard but it seems like these kinds of civil unrest need to happen (somewhere) in order to make meaningful progress.

What if they fucked up your house properly tho, stole your technics and TV and xbox. Cus you probably have more material goods than most really poor people. Would you raise your shoulders and say, well it's a stepping stone to a more just economic system, it needed to happen somewhere?

I also wonder if it's only "poor people" with enough justification by academic ideologists' standards who are looting etc. Like that stuff DJoe posted, maybe that's trying to impose ideology from the outside.

I think I get the appeal of looting, like. I used to shoplift and get up to dumb shit as a kid. It would probably be really exciting to just smash shit and take what you want from the shop. Does it really have to be a deep, natural reaction to injustice? Or maybe that's really presumptive and coming from a privileged position of me, cus I sure as hell don't feel like I've got society against me, so maybe excitement is the only reason someone like me can understand for doing stuff like that.

for the record smashing up a 7-Eleven is not a crime anywhere near as bad as police unjustly killing someone

what if? idk, obviously no one's gonna have that reaction. i guess that's part of life. everyone's a hypocrite at some level and is going to separate their immediate situation from the bigger picture.

i will say that while batlimore isn't literally my backyard, i know lots of people that live there and it's a short drive away. it's been mad seeing some of the facebook posts from people who live there. and many people i know have went to protest. i doubt you'd consider them your "typical" protestors. they're middle class/lower-middle class people of all races. some of them are people who aren't blatantly negatively affected by the economic and justice systems but still care enough to go and put themselves in a somewhat "dangerous" situation (others are those people). i'm just saying you don't have to be from "the ghetto" to care enough to take part in the protest.

that said, while I could do it (like, geographically speaking), i'm not going. if i felt like an actual "citizen" of baltimore maybe i would but it feels too phony since i don't feel like i'm a part of that community or whatever. maybe if i lived there i would but maybe not, it's kinda hard to say.
