All these synths have different synthesis engines. They produce their sound using different theoretical models of sound generation.

Subtractive synthesis takes away from the initial sound using filters. Additive synthesis adds the sound of multiple oscillators together to build up the sound. The Malstrom synth in Reason uses a cross between wavetable and granular synthesis. (wiki the terms for more info)

Some synths like NI Massive, Z3ta+ and Thor use a selection of different synthesis types to create their sound.

Albino

Post by Dodger Man » Thu Aug 28, 2008 11:23 am

Albino 3 all the way , cant get enough of the effects inside it, especially the reverb :D. Adds instant quality to your bass... If you haven't tried it, get it it! I find it by far the best for ambient and or synthy wobbly dub music.

Massive and Predator, only really starting to get in about them though...

Apart from that, any fee VST I can get my hands on, think I prefer that 'cheap' electro sound lol

standard.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

I'm new to VST as I finally put down the Reason. Lately I have been focusing on Z3ta just to get really good with it. I also like Albino and Massive.

Some synths like NI Massive, Z3ta+ and Thor use a selection of different synthesis types to create their sound.
Also, different synths use slightly different tweaks and variations on the synthesis types and consequently have a different character or a different range of options even if they're in the same ballpark in terms of sound. So one might have loads of modulation options for complex evolving patches, one might have a really rich sounding filter but not so many modulation options, one might have more options for combining the oscillators and so on...

1. massive
2. reaktor
3. analog (especially for subs)
4. operator (use it for bits n bobs that don't need fancy analog modeling)

then everything gets sampled and fucked with before too long... usually an audio track or two that are printed copies of my midi licks then i go back n forth with em...

ES2.

Just because I know it the best I suppose. Pads or nasty bass, it does it all. I use the ES1 occasionally, ESE or ESP for pads and here recently the EFM1. I think I'm gonna try out massive since everyone here seems to like it and that predator looks pretty dope too. Can't really get into Sculpture though.

Ableton FTW. Word up on the tunes. The label is dangerously close to going live. I'll be in contact.

depends on what style of music i am into at the moment. i make a lot more than just dubstep.

i use reaktor religiously for sound design and DSP. i really like massive, even thought it eats CPU like a prostie eats dick. rob papen synths are fucking phenomenal. arturia jupiter 8V is sick.

i also have a nice novation k-station hardware synth i use to make some huge bass. the novation v-station is the same thing in software.
