suffice it to say that there are more women making music, djing, putting on events, designing graphics, taking photos and just generally being involved in music than ever before right now, but the ones that tend to get seen the most are the ones who'll strut their cleavage for the camera. that's not to say those are the only ones who get noticed, but they are the ones who get the most...erm...exposure, shall we say.
I have to say that I agree with this one 100%. Perhaps I notice it as I live in a particularly.. erm... "unique" state as far as female representation in "the scene" goes, but I have to agree with the above.

After all, i'm sure if anyone here posts on DOA they can name at LEAST 2 or 3 NC ladies, and I know that quite a few have posted less than clothed pictures up etc etc. There are more than those ladies involved in music here, but those are the ones that get noticed. (well, those - or the dramatical ones, which lord freakin' knows we have those here too)

This is nine months old. :o Why bringit up now. We have established girls can't do mixing/producing/ or anything in the music medium. Basicly, what women are good for is the dishes or hair.

women can't read maps and men can't ask for directions. Perfect combination.

girls could do whatever they put their mind to. except too many of them and guys will start the "she's probably a dyke" namecalling. everytime a girl tries to do som'n a guy does, there's always an asshole or a bitch that will not hesitate to call her a 'dyke'.

back in the day i met a girl that used to sing at a blues bar at the island. She sang rnb like Mariah Carey style. I ended up hooking-up with her and encouraged her to MC at our DNB parties, which she had never heard of. She immediately fell in love with the music and am happy to say havin her as an MC was cool. She added an element we needed to hear. Everybody loved her.

Being a girl from the hood, she had no money and ended up joining the Navy. I never heard from her again. But we always wondered what it woulda been like if she had stayed with all of us and continued MCing for all the various dnb djs here in the valley.

If you ever meet a girl with talent do not hesitate to encourage her, no matter what part of the scene she's involved in.

I know lots of women who produce, dj and are into the dance as much (if not more). In fact, one third of our djing outfit is a woman and the extent and detail of her knowledge on music is a lot higher than mine.

The sad truth is that about 90% of guys visualise djs and producers as guys. When you go to a house party or a small bar, there is always a big group of blokes around the decks, tying to talk big about music they know fuck all about, whilst the girls stay back because they dont want to look like a twat and becuase the guys would not take them seriously.

The problem here is that quite a lot of men like the fact that dance music is a boys club to them and they dont want the girls taking it away from them. They are just happy to have the pretty girls dancing and telling them that they are great.

The way men think will change and then maybe there will be more women as main players in dance music. The few that are now are the robust ones that should not have to try so hard to break a male dominated world.

of course i wrote a tangent, but you know, 4 am posts with no glasses on means i can't read the damn dates. :o

but, hey, i can read a map and ask for directions. hell, i can even tell you what direction a river or creek is flowing on them. :)

I'll tell you why

Nick live for a day as a girl and go clubbing it . Your arse is touched up, guys sleaze over you and corner you drunk, If all eyes are on you cos you're doing the music this is times ten. Plus guys think it's not cool for girls to be producers. They're like, I'm not dancing to that, it's not real, it's not proper ladies doin it.
