I work at the airport and notice alot of hidden racism from alot of the passengers, and it does get annoying. If folks catch on to articles like that, its going to be another excuse for them to act funny towards us.

I admit u get a few concious tunes but most of it is violent, aggresive.
I agree with these points. I listen to a lot of tunes with very aggressive content, and I like them, but I do believe that these tunes are capable of adding fuel to the fire. I can get fired up and angry when I listen to certain tunes (although, yes, this can also happen when I'm not listening to any music), but I'm a total pussy, so I'm unlikely to ever turn violent, and if I do, I'll just get laughed at.KIRK wrote:Its true that lyrics have a big affect on people.
If u go out and theres some geeza on the mic chattin guns etc its more likely someones gna kik off than if someones spreading possitive vibes.
I was listening to Skepta's Rinse CD the other day, and I started to get a bit bored of the aggro. People are getting killed out there, and it's not funny. To have rappers going on about how they'll shoot you or stab you if you fuck with them is hardly nice, now, is it?
I mean, seriously, if these guys are as creative and as talented as they keep claiming to be in their lyrics, then why do they need to resort to violence? It's not big and it's not clever to act like a tnuc. "Real ******" are those who treat life with respect and try to control their emotions. We'd all be a lot better off if everyone behaved decently.

I def here what you are saying in regards to dotun''s article in the sun as well as i understand were dotun is coming from.
You see back in the day there was an some sort of BALANCE in the media, what do i mean by this. Back in the day radio stations club dj's used to play NWA along side tribe call quest.
I even remember the flack that NWA got when they came out for their lyrical content, from songs like
fuck the police
click link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsDtfmfsyi8
which they defended the so called " negative reviews" by stating that they are only talking about what they know... Fair enough and i agree. but on the other hand they had a positive side with songs like
express yourself click link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAmPhbpK6y8
you see BALANCE is the key !!!!!
right lets take it to the present day......
Today we are living among negativity in our every day lives from the were we live, what we see on tv, games we play as well as what we hear on the radio, war, crime to name a few
you heard the term sex sells, well the same goes for violence. dont get it twisted i been in the hip hop, rap, grime game since day one but let me tell you this.....
Record lables, radio stations know dat violence sells in the same way it sells in the film industry so all they care about is making units, fair enough its a business. but i have been in meetings with labels with my boy who was signed to a major who had just out prison totally reformed and wanted change his music to address his positive side. The label did not want to know, they just wanted to hear his negative side.
right back to grime ting yo i love grime, i love the music, i love the flows and i like the lyrics, but please when you say
there are elements for whom grime is negative reinforcement.
there is to much of that, or shall i say radio stations weather legal, pirate or online as well as TV and record labels push the type of grime with a lot of negativity. whether it is to sell units or to destroy something created from the street ( Dont get me started on the decline UK Garage )
and despite what you say music is a big influence to young minds along side other things the youth are exposed to in their life
So if you are in the game, just to make the papers and trust me talk about negativety and i m sure in time you will get signed. but also take responsiblity. However if you are a more than making paper talk about the poistive in your lyrics as well negative to let people know there are always two sides of a coin
I do not see a balance, knowing there are positive grime uk music out there. MAINTAIN THE BALANCE!!!!!!
I want to see and hear TRIBE CALLED QUEST/ DE LA SOUL grime being played along side the grime as we know.
It is in our hands to do what NWA did maintain a balance. So yeah Dotun raised a point purely because all he hears and see's in the mainstream is just the negative side cause thats all they are promoting.
THATS THE PROBLEM TAZ, so i ask you this lets talk and i ask u and peeps in the forum to address that situation im all about BALANCE and if you think there is a BALANCE in our music fair enough, but if not lets join forces and let people know that grime is not all about negativity

dont care anymore

its all the mc's faults for latching onto the sound and tarnishing good dance music, with some dreadful wannabe hip-hop rapping american slang and mannerisms.
everybody in here better hope that nobody starts to decide to choose dubstep to rap over as theres no uk hip-hop scene.

well the guy who wrote the article is black so you can hardly argue that he's racist... but can't deny that his opinions are mostly wrong or ill-informed. that said, i have to agree with the arguments about the negativity in grime. there's just no need for it to have such a basis in violence and aggressiveness (for the most part - obviously there's exceptions)SILKIE wrote:12 seconds of his article made me wanna kill him. bruv they would never get a white person 2 write sumfin like that, coz then we could say it was racist, get a black guy 2 do it, then we got no leg 2 stand onSILKIE wrote:12 seconds of his article made me wanna kill him.
