i don't really know about uk hip hop. lewis parker's productions for ghostface killah, k-lash and random impulse is about the limit of my knowledge i'm afraid...

Lewis Parker is a better beat maker than lyricist imo

much as i love krs one, some of his songs could be considered 'gangster' (shock horror!) so i'm sure the original poster wouldn't be interested

and in general, the best uk hip hop can't really compete with the best of us hip hop, that's probably why people tend to discuss it more. there's a lot of garbage on both sides of the pond though

i get ripped on for loving it but get the dark sun riders' self titled album. its on island. its a proper album with a story, underrated imo.

there's lots of non gangsta hip hop out there.
