Sony MDR-V6

Pros
- good frequency response (supposedly 5-30,000 hz)
- good isolation
- broadcast (radio & tv) standard for several decades
- they last for fucking ever

Cons
- a bit tight fitting... physical fatigue can come into play after a few hours
- everyone loves to hate on 'em
- supposedly the faux-plasti-vinyl covering on the cups wears off. it certainly did on my MDR-600's... but my MDR-V6's haven't shown the slightest sign of wear over the past year.

Price
- £45 used
- £80 - 100 new
NICE, i was hoping someone was rocking these so they could let me know whats up, i know nothing about headphones. yeah the covering on my pair are almost completely gone, i got mine used. these headphones will make your ears soar.

I have no qualms with them other than the fact that they hurt to wear for long periods of time. They sound good to me, which isnt really saying much. :e: :e: :e: :e: :e: :e:

They present what you are listening to completely as-is; no added gain boots just perfect sound quality in all frequency ranges. I really recommend them I did a lot of research too before I purchased. My mixdowns are sounding VERY great
I checked out my buddy's Grado's the other day. They def were not a higher end model but they sounded great I must admit. They sounded more like I was listening to speakers than anything else I have heard. They were nice and light and comfortable too. Not really sure how they would translate to production but they seemed like a nice pair of can for pure listening.
do you know what model he had? Grado is really well known in the production industry they have like 2 grand head phones with mahogany chambers haha plus they are all american made which was a big plus for me
I've done some research on these. Alessandro MS-1 http://www.alessandro-products.com/headphones.html are supposedly Grado models (some say close to sr80, some say close to sr125) modified/revamped to produce flatter frequency response and they are basically the Grado for musicians. I'm looking forward to get the MS-1. Anyone on this forum using them? Would like to hear your opinions.

People still rocking the Sony MDR-V6?! wow. Oldskool DJ headphones. Bare people use to use them in Chicago in the early House days!

SHURE SRH 840 (Price is up to 210€ I guess, since that's what they cost here in Norway, but we're overpriced on anything from outside Norway, so that probably explains it.)
Pros: Detachable coiled cable, which is long, foldable, wide Freq range, no frequencies boosted like most cheap headphones, they're flat like Monitor speakers. Also, they are very comfortable.
Cons: I can't afford them :'(

5Hz - 25 000 Hz
44 ohms
102dB @ 1 000Hz

So i just got a pair of AKG K240's, and although their new ( i know they need to break-in so to speak), the low frequencies definitely seem to be lacking. I have read nothing but solid reviews in regard to their accuracy though, and i don't have a developed ear for what a pair of studio headphones "Should" sound like, compared to artificially boosted and beautiful bass.

should i be worried or should i just learn to use them and judge my subbass levels accordingly?

they're quality headphones, the only downfall to me is that they're semi open ear

Great value headphones.

Think they are Audio Technica not AKG though.

I have the ATH-M50s. £100, ridiculously good and uncoloured too, so good for production.

Was thinking about these, what would they be like for DJing? Need some nice headphones for producing and DJing in, ie flat freq response and a bit of comfort/closed back. Would it be better to buy cheaper headphones to DJ with then buy monitor headphones, or buy something that is good for both like HD25s. Also how do the different versions of the HD 25
compare - HD 25-1 II and the cheaper HD 25-SP II. Keep in mind that I'm trying to buy cheaper headphones so I can get better monitors. Thanks if anyone has any advice.

Just invested in a pair of Allen & Heath Xone XD53's

http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/headphones ... phones.htm

Very nice sounding from what i've heard since i got um yesterday, very well made aswell.

Also use a set of Shure SE530's (Know there not headphones but what the hell), use them for just listening to music on the go ect.

What about the AKG K270's? Had a listen to them the other day, and admittedly didn't sound as good as the 240s but were pretty nice. Haven't found any DT770s to listen to yet but am on the lookout. Closed back, flat headphones are hard to find. Only other option I've seen is the Sony MDR9506s, which almost sound too good to my untrained ear. That soudn on sound review in Jan this year was helpful but didn't cover the 270s for some reason...
