its official. its signed to capitol records and coming out on a new Katy Perry album full of B-sides and remixes, most notably the remix of "Ur So Gay" by Caspa, which I'm sure you know has been smashing up raves across the globe.. gonna be a big release.Rogue Star wrote:on who's authority are you able to say this is an official rmx?
haha, i can't really imagine rusko hunting down the parts of the song without official blessing or more likely askingarmada wrote:its official. its signed to capitol records and coming out on a new Katy Perry album full of B-sides and remixes, most notably the remix of "Ur So Gay" by Caspa, which I'm sure you know has been smashing up raves across the globe.. gonna be a big release.Rogue Star wrote:on who's authority are you able to say this is an official rmx?

If this IS offical. Seems like that Fabric Live CD has done wonders for them to innit? Big ups to them to be honest, they're not everyones cup of tea but they're good producers and know how to get a dancefloor moving and can do the low, skinky mellow stepping tunes too.

seems like something that was a simple dub and what is commonly known as "trying a ting" got well blown out of proportion, next thing we got politics and bullshit all over the gaff, please people try not to ride around on your 120ft steeds - the air is thin up there

Word. Rusko has made some brilliant remixes in his time.kidcazual wrote:Jester wrote:rusko the pendulum of dubstep?
leave it son , this fellas done his time and brought some big things to the table , course hes gonna take the remix offer gwan the babylon
Adele - cold shoulder, Skream - Dutch flowers, Leon jean-marie - Bring it on to name a few.
Pendulum of dubstep. Thats a joke. Stop jumping on the 'we hate rusko' bandwagon. I believe it was Joe Nice who said 'the best thing about dubstep is that it has no boundaries'.
These songs are what dubstep is to rusko, and to many others, so why slag him for off for that?
I think it's actually pretty groundbreaking in that it manages to be both fucking boring and kinda offensive at the same time (i don't know a single lesbian who doesn't want to punch Perry in the chops).
I think comparing it to the Klaxons remix is a bit dumb too, Skream chose that because he genuinely liked the tune (whatever i think of it i can appreciate that), i might be wrong and doing the guy a disservice but i don't suspect Rusko did that out of love for the tune

its impossible to judge pop songs like this in any context of seriousness.
for the people that feel the original, I feel it tends to be a 'so bad its good' type of thing happening.
pop as utter trash has tremendous novelty appeal, and people are most definitly feeling the celebratory shallowness these days.. and have been since at least the 80's.. its a sentiment of the public's musical taste, moreso a reflection of what some people are looking to get out of life and how mainstream media feeds into those base pleasure centers. Shows you how deep 'art' can get, or rather, how many steps art can take to avoid more thought provoking preoccupations.
imo the tune should be generating more smirks rather than cringes and even less dialogue

It's weak cos the vocal keeps going throughout the whole track, but he probably had to do that for the official remix.
If he had done a proper dubstep remix he would probably have cut the vocals up and then just dropped into some fucked wobble smasher and everyone would be like big big big.
Allow the dumb idiots chatting shit about sell out. If someone comes along and says can you do a remix for £10k or whatever plus the royalities then who gives a shit.

Personally i think Rusko is coming in at a completely different angle rite now, I think he appeals to people that are yet to dicover the dubstep sound and pulls them in.
If this tune was played in a commercial club im pretty sure it would grab a few people that have never heard of dubstep to look further into the sound so in the respect that hes trying to push things forward and get more people involved in the sound then fair play.
Its not really my bag but iv seen it time and time again, people that are not too sure about dubstep and dont know much about the genre as a whole always seem to take to caspa and rusko tunes first then educate themselves further into the sound.

@ roguestar.. I guess I'm just curious about what you think the difference would be whether or not it was official?
seems like peeps would have something to say about this tune getting the treatment whether or not it was a officially-backed venture.
guess I'm just confused where you're coming from, but I feel like you're making an important distinction. just want to clarify i guess. lemme know.

I can't see that it makes a different. The only difference is whether or not people still consider him a sell out or not. Either way it's dumb because remixing mainstream tracks ain't selling out. ITS MAKING FUCKING MONEY TO LIVE.Jolly Wailer wrote:guess I'm just confused where you're coming from, but I feel like you're making an important distinction. just want to clarify i guess. lemme know.
The only people who don't sell out are tramps who live off hand outs... anyone else is selling out.
