ive got a mate who just cant mix sober.

I used to rely on being fucked when I was in a band but admittedly I cant mix for toffy after a bottle of brandy.

I love mixing after a smoke tho and seem to better coz i get WELL into it.

De-Fi speaketh the truth.

a friend of mine was booked to play on New Years eve and was asked to BRING HIS OWN NEEDLES for his set.
Any dj worth their salt should always bring their own needles. I never trust cub needles with my precious vinyls
You have to bring your own if you want to have control.
Lots of experience will make it easy to use anything, but why?!!
Its all about the sound isn't it ?!!
Always bring my concords and REMEMBER TO REPLACE THE STYLUS!!!
In oslo I have to bring my own mixer too . . .
Its so much more fun to work with good equipment!
By all means bring your own stuff if thats what you feel comfortable with, and people have had valid points about taking there stuff because you can trust it. The point i wanted to make is not the case of "i bring my needles / slipmatts etc... because i know them" more the point of the promoter phoning up to confirm your booking and saying "oh yeah, make sure you bring your own needles / Slipmatts / mixer because i wont be supplying them"

I suppose i have been lucky enough to play places where the equipment there was of decent standerd, but if i owned a club and a dj i booked told me he needed to switch needles because mine where S**T i would be just a little embaressed (hope i spelt that right)

thats why i dont drink at all when i have gigs.. i might have 1 drink but if i get free drink tickets or whatever i will always hand them to the friends that i came with... no need being drunk when trying to perform for an audience...its counter productive

i think the best place to get smashed is behind a set of decks

i think djs should make mistakes. they should be pushing themselves to their limit and trying new things. if you think about something like pro skating or anything like that, the people often fuck up and make mistakes but that does not mean their shit, its just because they are pushing themselves and experimenting with new tricks.

I normally go to nights to hear tunes and not wank over precise mixing - if a dj fucks up - so what? as long as he realizes quickly it wont ruin a night for me

Go out and have some fun and stop getting so uptight (no pun intended) about djing

Yeah
Skream was one I was thinking of.
but of course he is excused cos, given the sound system,
he fucks me up and blows my mind
drunk or sober.

But you are totally correct. Actually a lot of people just can't DJ at all and still get up there before learning how to mix. They should be in the audience as well.
