Maybe you know the german Groove magazin, it basically covers the german techno and house scene. Every month they visit one of the top german techno/house artists in their studio and do some tech talk. I swear of all the excellent and succesful producers they visited, no one owned a studio worth 30k. And 90% dont even come near to 10k. In fact, i think more than 50% worked in the box, maybe have a sub and some nice monitors, but thats it. Bottom line imho, leave the expensive gear for the mastering studios.
No offence meant, but you can make perfectly releasable tunes with a setup worth maybe 1 or 2k. Then you can pass on your tunes to a proper mastering studio and invest your 15k for mastering all the tunes you will ever produce in your life If you cant make decent techno tunes with a rather simple setup (we're still talking 1-5k here), the 30k studio wont do anything for you. Just my 2 cents....

this is the one area i can really spea with some authority, spent 3 years as a specialist vocal engineer a while back and still record at least a few tracks of vocals every month since about 8 years...

how much are you prepared to dedicate to your front end? you can actually get amazing results with about £1000

I'd love to have this money too, and the only thing I'd consider spending a lot of money on would be the area in which I would rent my studio space and then the living costs to be near by.

Good security system, not joking I think I'd be too paranoid and really have to get a gun...

Whatever you consider buying, if you're going to rent this studio out, where the studio is located is going to be your most important consideration. You want to be in a city FULL of musicians, otherwise there's going to be no reliable income!

C414 is the best mic I've ever used for vocals.

not being funny, but get yourself an audiophile 2496, a pair of akgs and stick the rest in the bank man, download the rest off torrents, 30k bro!! 30 fucking k!!!

Software is so good these days, some people cant believe the sounds I get out of my shit is software, its all thanks to things like Massive, Nexus and T-Racks, decent drum samples and a bit of effort, when u start thinking about buying a house that 30k is gonna be so fucking useful!

I do have one piece of hardware which i love to bits and would buy again if it broke, Korg Triton LE61 Synth, cost me 795 quid and worth every penny, though i love it so much coz i play, have done since I was a kid, I hardly use it in my dubstep productions.

although if you had to ask me what id buy if I'd like made it in music and had a new 30k budget, id get:

Get a decent PC.. 2x 20'' monitor. Buy a proper soundcard and a set of good monitors and you are set to go imo.
