Very loose description encompassing music from folks like:

Flying Lotus
Glitch Mob
Lazer Sword
Nosaj Thing
Crunc Tesla
Exile

Hip-Hop influenced but featuring elements from electronic music (IDM programming, heavy bass, synths, etc). There is no formal genre but there is a movement on the West Coast of US that is gaining momentum for sure.
Don't forget Dabrye. The OG glitch hop dude. I remember seeing him live back in 01 or some shiz. Prefuse 73 is okay, but I only like a handful of his tunes.

I am genuinely asking, never really heard it except a few times on this forum.

Thank you. This sounds interesting, I guess I will by myspacing around today listening to music.
the only good skwee i've ever heard is eero johannes. check that mofo out. it's like shiny synth funk :D

I must say I've been disappointed by Skweee in the last coupla years. I had high hopes but it's pretty derivative and self-referencing already, not a great deal of true inspiration...I'm sure if I dug deep I'd find more that I liked, but I think generally it's a musical cul-de-sac...

I think kuduro/baile funk may flourish in the next year or two, bringing more experimentation with rhythm in music. 2-step is coming back into fashion which may creep into people's music again, and Funky seems to have raised the spectre of Broken Beat, which to be fair never quite fulfilled its potential.

A meeting point of all of the above has potential to burst into a new scene of its own, provided a number of like-minded producers all arrive at roughly the same place, at the same time.

Neurotik wrote: I just hope dubstep doesnt go in the same direction as grime, commercialised to chavs, attracts a big mc following so it turns into a big pathetic image like grime did.

but i doubt thats going to happen soon 2bh, dubstep reflects real talent to me, not just some poorly made chopped up beat some 13yr old made on a cracked fl studio. if you put a synthesiser infront of a grime producer id doubt theyd know what to do with it since its just the notes of preset patches drew over the kicks. i was a listener of grime instrumental until around 2006 when what talent there was left dissapeared, moved on to dubtep/electronica so it became over-run by school kids who thought they could mc because it made them look good. to me grime went from a new innovative music style to "suck your mom", and that ain't music.

dubstep reflects mastery of proffesional music production techniques so to me it's got a long life ahead of it, as skream basically explained in his interview that dubstep is about the music not image.
I disagree with this in parts. I think the emcees became too powerful in grime & ultimately stifled creativity however the stuff about the synths is ridiculous. People such as swindle & DOK have unique styles which are pretty synth heavy & maniac in the last 18 months has probably upped the levels more than anyone in the genre for years despite his youth. The talent is still there in grime, it just takes a bit of finding.

As for whats after dubstep, for me it would be some garage/techno/dub combination along the lines which people like 2562, synkro & pangaea are heading in

You read my mind. Listened to about half of it in the car and I am really digging it. I would say it is nothing new. Reminds me a lot of a lot of other things. But very enjoyable none the less. I guess this is only partially Skwee eh? I have heard some of the "n Shit" on some other mixes. I am guessing tho that the Skwee is the stuff with all the lazorz?
