these are all uses for them which do not require their humanisation. in fact the first two require their dehumanisation and so do some of the most entertaining forms of animal entertainment (dancing bears, circus acts, cock fights etc)
as for companionship. are you 80?
no. i'm saying the idea that animals are at most "competition" is clearly false given all the beneficial ways we exploit animals
as for companionship - you do know 80 year olds are also humans?

I much prefer Mexican to Chinese or Indian. I also cannot stand typically British food, it's so dull and tasteless.

Shit typically british food is dull and tasteless. You can't knock a roast beef joint cooked in a mustard rub, in a red wine gravy.
British is one of my least favourite foods, but you're chatting egg.

It could possibly be down to a lack of taste buds from years of smoking.

haha. the stuff you eat day to day is not the same as the cuisine. i doubt i've ever had a fancy version of english "cuisine". maybe eggs benedict is an example? (nope, apparently that's american.

shows what i know)
i love english food but it's not about how many spices are in it or whatever, it's about how filling and simple it is and the times you have it. like i will always associate fish and chips with the seaside. roasts with family time. stew and dumplings with christmas eve. thick custard, really heavy puddings. nostalgia sure but idc

you can have british food done absolutely superbly
same way you can have steak and chips and not need to eat anything else because of how good the food was done
trouble is no one here knows how to cook simple things well

it has a lot to do with WWII
"Rationing was not fully lifted until almost a decade after war ended in Europe, so that a whole generation was raised without access to many previously common ingredients. These policies, put in place by the British government during wartime periods of the 20th century, are often blamed for the decline of British cuisine in the 20th century."
