I'd like to stem the tide of Blair Witch disappointment, but that may have something to do with watching it in the cinema for the first time combined with living in the sticks/camping regularly. I've never seen a cinema audience so gripped by a Western scary movie, tbh. It's still one of my absolute favourites.... all atmosphere and no cheap (read: high budget) tricks/jumps... never truly knowing if they're not going mad/playing tricks on each other is excellent.

It does lose a bit on the small screen... but standard horror rules should always apply with scary movies - all lights off, curtains closed, volume up, NO BREAKS and NO FUCKING TALKING... suspension of disbelief is more important than in any other genre. I remember getting the "meh, it's not scary though" response when I showed some mates The Exorcist during our GCSE exam leave... "NO, YOU JUST REFUSED TO LET YOURSELF BE SCARED BECAUSE YOU'RE A BUNCH OF PUSSIES"

It's to do with IMDB linking (and some other sites) - if you entered the last URL into your browser, you'd display the jpg for the Tapes whatever film.


As an aside, Wiki is much better for allowing hotlinking of images.

Yeah I have to view image properties a lot to see the name, and sometimes there's no name.

People can use this to test if the image can be linked: www.htaccesstools.com/test-hotlink-protection/

Or

www.altlab.com/hotlinkchecker.php

Of course can always enter the image address @ www.tinypic.com and it will create a linkable copy of the image.

Really opened my eyes to what the energy companies are doing to our planet.

Watched it with the lady, and she absolutely loved it. I'm on the very edge between liking it and loving it. I think it's in a way a morphing of various plays put together to tell a story. It takes the idea that Shakespeare as we know it was not actually William Shakespeare, and runs with it. The plot was definitely captivating, made you want to keep watching (it's about 2 1/2 hours long). For me it was fine and dandy till the end, when a certain twist made me raise my eyebrow, and seemed to be an unnecessary and cheesy ode to a certain greek tragedy. But that is part of the humor in the film, I suppose. If it wasn't for that certain twist I would've given it a higher rating. Not to be given any grain of historical credibility, it is a very fun story that is superbly acted and well done visually. The negative reviews it gets are from people who think the movie is presenting an actual theory to be taken seriously, when I think it's clear it's for entertainment, which it certainly is. Definitely worth watching.

I watched this thanks to you, and I thought it was great. I assumed from the cover and stuff it would some goofy stoner comedy, but it got pretty deep at times. Although obviously, I was high as balls the entire time.

Fell asleep towards the end, watched it as it's by the guy that directed Drive but didn't think much of it.

Is kill list the type of movie you want to watch at night in a dark room?

I think the main reason people hated it (originally) was the ending. You had to have felt cheated lol

Ah I see. And yeah, I definitely agree with you on that. Watching a movie like that with a couple of your mates usually isn't half as scary as it should be.

But yeah, probably going to watch Blair Witch Project tomorrow so we'll see

The Poughkeepsie Tapes is a definite recommender btw. Honestly.

Just watched Drive, thought it was shit. People on here raving about the soundtrack made me think it was gonna be Kuedo-esque, instead its some synth-pop bollocks with lyrics about a 'hero'. Very poor.

Saw A Dangerous Method last night - very interesting film with a controversial narrative, raising many important issues about human well-being and its connection to sexuality and morality. Cuts quite deep, some of the therapy scenes were very intense. Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen also do excellent jobs portraying Jung and Freud. The scenes dealing with their private conversations were great plot devices, explicitly shoring up a lot of the film's subtler themes. Freud's concern with suppression and the ethical significance of how he deals with that (feeding into the issue of scientific methdolology), the line between patient/physician, and the explorations of the neurotic characters of both Jung and Freud, were all brilliantly presented - the famous quote "I cannot risk my authority" cuts like a knife. Highly recommended watch.

i started watching anonymous and when i figured out they were trying to say somebody other than Francis Bacon was shakespeare i completely lost interest and turned it off
