a really good way to improve framerate is use DataRam RAMdisk to store the dayz files on.
hard drive speed plays a big part in this game, which is unusual.
the read and write speeds are far beyond even ssds, which makes the game run miles better. the dayz files are only like 250mb too, which doesn't use too much of your ram.

I get nasty lag on international servers but that's my line over anything else.
I wish I could join some of you stnuc.

This having to find everything every time I die does become a pain sometimes.

it gets boring having top-tier gear, yesterday I killed myself sacrificing loads of shit, nvgs, rangefinder, m107, m16 acog, loads of ammo, and every tool..
should have let someone on here kill me really, but noone was online

and can someone confirm how many shots the magnum/m1911 takes to kill a zombie? the wiki states 3 body shots (used to be 1)
but my friend can still kill in 1 shot (definitely, we tested over and over) and it takes me 4 body shots to kill.

I have the same issue with the magnum/m1911.
I often have to shoot 3-4 times, from heart to legs.
Nowadays I go for leg shots to slow the fuckers down or I get murked while trying to shoot them more than twice.

the main issue for the game is ram and cpu, not a beefy vid card

Yep...I use an old PS3 Singstar mic which someone gave me for VOIP. Mic placement, as ever, is the key!
A lot of servers had disabled in-game VOIP but recently it seems to be enabled on most servers. We spent about 3 hours in Cherno the other day with 3 of us sniping and one of us running around holding people up with the mic then robbing, executing, or sniping them :lol:
Bringer wrote:P.S. Anybody lucky enough to get the L85A2 AWS ?
Yep, they rule! NV/thermal scope. You can scope out a treeline in about 2 seconds. And they take STANAG or SD STANAG. Hit us up, I can sort you one.
Bringer wrote:P.P.S. Anybody got nvg they can give me?
Yep, hit us up on Steam (cruising_beef) or add any of my mates who play Arma 2, we've stashed a few NVG's.
Sweet, thanks. I'll tap u when I get a mic.

some tech tips i've seen:

If you want Arma to use ALL your video memory, set it to default not very high. On very high (for me) it uses only 800MB, but when set to default it uses 1.8GB.

and in the ArmA2OA.cfg file, edit the following to read:
GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

arma uses more cpu than gpu, there are some custom tweaks you can make to bump your fps easily

Wow! I found a Ghillie suit! 8)

But I heard that it can transport you to the middle of the ocean and lose all your backpack items and other bizarro weird shit. So I'm kinda' scared to put it on. Has anyone had experience of this?

@phigure: well I'm running 1.7.2.4 so I guess I'll try it, I'll drop my backpack just in case tho.

@wobbles: just in a residential house in the village below the NW airfield. I think the chance of that is less than 1%.

A good thing to do if you have the patience or a vehicle is to look for camps on the edges of the map. I tried it on foot but it's takes too long.
