My eyes are bleeding from what ive just read
Europhilic allure and fashionable otherness have made soccer the new baseball — the go-to sport of the thinking class
“Any time I’m at a book party or reading, and soccer comes up in conversation, I find myself surrounded by young men in shabby-genteel, loosely fitting tweed jackets gushing over the Gunners,”
"American fans can follow games and instantaneously track information from global leagues both big and small, feeling as close to their favorite teams as if they lived within a thrown beer of their stadium.”

yeah but you dont root for them. it implies no passion just a sort of 'if i had to pick one'
big difference between rooting for and supporting if you know what i mean

Big up all the American prem fans tho, I've been heavily into NBA all my life and can be a mission following shit in a different country, lots of late nights and searching for coverage etc, can take a bit of dedication

No it isn't. Only this yeah has nbc sports and espn start covering it and even then they are the first to get bump to make room for other things. Speaking with people is say 1-2 in 10 can name a player other than Rooney in the BPL, with many thinking Ronaldo is still on Utd

Bit easier for american football fans, the games are just on early, like a 3pm kick off is what, 10am on the eastern seaboard? 12 o clock is 7 am. I'd get up early to watch a game.
Some of the NFL games kill me. Devoed when I look at the Colts schedule and there's thursday/sunday night games, cos it means I'm going to work on an hour and a half's sleep.

Guessing it's the same with you and Liverpool, ehbes, but like, I want the Colts to be good, but not so good that more than half their games are prime time haha. Couple of my mates are Pats fans #bandwagon and the season before last, seemed everyone of their games was a later sunday game.

so FA cup final is at 5pm last train out to hull is like 9 something. bit of a par on hull fans (who may be celebrating in the stadium etc.) who are likely to miss last train home
final should be at 3pm
another example of television rights coming before fans.

Why is the premiership called the EPL now? i dunno why but it pisses me off, why does everything get americanised ffs.
tbh it's probably the main reason football is getting more popular in america cos they can finally understand the game now it has a three letter acronym

Don't so much mind a 4pm (9pm here) start, because I can hack going to bed at 1 before work, but the 8pm (I think) games are a killer. Thing with soccer as well, is that you know the whole deal is gonna be roughly 2 hours. American Football can proper go on, the Colts - Broncos game last year ended up being an almost 6am finish here.

Not seen him much, but from what i've seen he's pretty good at set pieces, especially free kicks.

No doubt. He is almost a mini Pirlo in that regard. I think he scores two in three, where Pirlo scores two in five (but has had a lot more freekicks obviously).
It's just impossible forming an oppinion on him over here where he's viewed as the next comming of jesus with silly billy Bendtner being the closest to his level.
I personally think he's way too good for spurs.
