morality: A person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.

if a person is found to have killed someone, they should die. i do not see how a life in prison is an acceptable outcome of someone who has taken the only thing any of us will ever have

EDIT: and with todays standards and systems, a life in prison is hardly what a murderer would get anyway

I'd gladly die instead of being in jail. That thing is hell on earth, turns men into monsters and everytime they come back, they come out worse.

even if you think revenge is justification for its existence (which its absolutely not), the mere fact that sometimes innocents end up being executed alone should speak against its use. imo it's more morally justifiable to let 1000 guilty men off (which you're not, you're giving them life in prison anyways) than to execute even only 1 innocent man

i certainly agree there's people for which there is no hope, but i believe you've got to try to rehabilitate everyone or don't try at all. i mean, how can you really determine if someone's beyond rehabilitation other than to actually attempt to do so

Yeah your'e right I guess, its really complicated. But people like the Wests for example are just broken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_West), cant see any sort of rehabilitation or change after crimes like that.
Probably worth trying tho.

there is some icelandic guy in brazilian jail though, drug smuggling is pretty huge here

There's a drunk driving campaign on SA TV which basically goes "Papa wag"
Which translated means, Daddy is waiting for you.
It cuts to a scene of a scantly clad prisoner licking his lips ready to molest you.
There's another one with the same wording but a cop van filled with really rough looking guys also ready and waiting to cause massive damage to your poop shoot.

It's a very hectic ad campaign but it sure as hell makes me not want to go to prison here.
