Yeah thats the basic of the sound, but the real magic for me is in the stereo effects.futures_untold wrote:Starts with a reversed sound, although I'm unsure what it is.3za wrote:

Fucking mind bending!!!
Then they've used a sample of a ping pong ball bouncing and played it at different pitches to make it speed up and down.
They also reverse the sample at one point, and put it through different types of effects at other points too.
There is a synth with a fast lfo merged in which sounds like bubles/lazer...
Finally, they get some synth drums or samples and make a rhythm out of all the different noises!

Cheers for the tip, chap. Yep, been through them all, and 123 certainly seems to be similar-ish. I'll see if a bit of processing can push it even closer. Ta!

I think it's pretty much spot on bar the odd bit of EQ and maybe some added phase in Massive (Timbre on macros setup)
play it at around E2 or so and mess about with the voices. it's currently set at 1 voice but i've set the panning for some extra width for 2 voices for after the drops maybe.
Sure let me know what ya think.

Here's the massive patch Vv

Re: The 'help me make this sound!' thread
i've got two sounds i've tried multiple times to get but i haven't had any succes trying it!
the first one is right at the start of this song by pixelord.. i mean the ARP'ish sound that repeats itself for the first 6 seconds..
i hear it everywhere! but i can't seem to nail it..
<iframe src="/forum/video.php?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5GzJQooOg0" frameborder="0" style="overflow:hidden; height:auto; max-width:540px"></iframe>
the second sound is a bit similar.. but it feels like it's much faster.. i heard rustie and nastynasty doing it often..
it starts at 0:51.. it sounds like a higher pitched version of the sound i mean in the pixelord song..
it's this crispy ARP'ish repeating sound..
<iframe src="/forum/video.php?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6SiZehzwD4" frameborder="0" style="overflow:hidden; height:auto; max-width:540px"></iframe>
if ANYONE could help me how to get sounds close to these that would be really amazing!
thanks in advance!

Re: The 'help me make this sound!' thread
It appears that you know what type of sound it is (arp), so the question is, how do you make an arp using Massive?
One way could be to assign the performer sequencer to control the pitch of the oscillators. Using a square shape would give the most even pitch per step. You would also need to experiment to get the modulation depth accurate enough to give the notes you want to hear.
The second way would be to download a free midi arp tool. This is inserted on your track before the synth. KVRaudio.com has plenty listed in its plugin database.
Finally, sequence the notes by hand (as mentioned in a post above) and copy the midi part directly in your sequencer for the parts that you want the arp playing.
With regards to the actual notes playing, I think the arp is spanning three octaves using a 1/32 step length. For that blippy sound use a basic square wave and possibly add the mildest amount of chorussing for it to 'phase' in and out in a dreamlike manner.
Hope that helps
Patrick

There's a pint in it if anyone can show me the light!
By the purest of luck I did purchase that very sample CD when it came out, but looking at it now there's like 400 samples in that folder! Number 123 sounds similar, but auditioning them all is something of a mind-f*ck!
Re: The 'help me make this sound!' thread
The wobble in this, it sounds almost exactly like the majority of Coki's wobbles.
I NEED to know how to get something somewhat to this effect.
Sounds like the wobble is descending in pitch as it changes lfo.
But is it more than that?
Re: The 'help me make this sound!' thread
I need some help with the bass which comes in at 1.01. My best guess is some sort of pitch bent reese but I've not really got much of an idea where to start
Re: The 'help me make this sound!' thread
I don't know about the actual osscillation, but as for modulation it's a short little riff with a little bit of portamento with a filter with a lot of resonance opening up.LTUK wrote:I need some help with the bass which comes in at 1.01. Have no clue apart from that there is short delay involved.

however i feel like its frequency shifted... ive been able to make a couple coki-esque sounds with a pair of frequency shifters.... it sounds like different parts of the spectrum are moving apart from each other... and that makes it play a really clear note or slide, and at the same time go offpitch...
interested a lot in that one.

Oh and if someone is interested in the overused Flux pavillion high pitched ear killing bass, I kinda nailed it last night.
Synth 1 = noise + high pitched square.
Synth 2 = sine sub.
Add an overkill amount of tape saturation to both and boom. For some reason, if you don't play the synths at the same time, it will sound like pish. The sub+tape sat clashes with synth 1 for some reason, this is what makes it sound cool.

I dunno if abelton has it, but in FL there's a relatively easy way to achieve this, go in the piano roll, and click up at the top where it says velocity, then go down to the pitch and pen it in manually in the bottom.
I have the same effect going on but faster in the top tune in my sig. other than manipulating individual pitch on stuff I don't know that there's a better way
A conglomeration of my old tearout tunes I like, and my new ones I don't

asking for a reese-oriented sound recipe is like asking for a recipe to good sex... the best ones ull make often come from grasping the present moment and improvising..Sub South wrote:please help me recreate the downfalling bass in smash tv - Chase & status. around 0:44 in the video link :(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRduYWtlLUg)

ahah but seriously. read about reeses .. go on DOA's grid... a very few people will be able to give u an exact recipe of how to make that exact sound... because reeses are experimental. its just not so gritty square/saw-based sounds that are separated in various bands of frequencies then distorted and phased to taste, in a different fashion in each band... read about it.
still interested in that other bass sound we are posting on tho (the hoax one)

Anyone have an ideas about the stab sound at 1:39 in this track.
it also sounds familiar to the intro from around 10 seconds in this one too.
