Yeah you wouldn't get in anywhere where the person you were with wasn't in amazingly tight with the owner, and even then it'd be a push to expect them to flout the law for a special case. Be better off looking for studios etc near whichever corner of the earth you're in at the moment and offering to be their tea boy. You'll pick up more general tips on music production and have to apply them to your chosen genre yourself but it'd probably be a much more worthwhile experience in the long run and easier to get involved in than asking skream if you can go round his house and feed his babymagma wrote:That's not really how licensing works.Sonika wrote:but if I was with them couldnt I?LA_Boxers wrote:You probably wouldnt get into any clubs.......so seems a bit pointless.Sonika wrote:something else -
I was thinking about getting in touch with one of the big artists in london and seeing if I could get something like an "apprenticeship" going with one of them - like I obviously wouldnt take classes from them or anything but I'd just be like a coffee boy or something, do odd jobs, and I could stay with some relatives in london, and in return I could follow them around to the nights that they perform at and hang out in their studio or something.....
what's the probability of that happening?

I think I read that there's some law covering entertainers that makes them exempt to certain age limits?

sorry i think im busy whenever it is that you need me
Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
I'm going to be nice just this once as I largely think you're a bit of a tosser, but here is my advice;Sonika wrote:I dunno if apprenticeship is necessarily the right word, I don't really have a goal to learn anything, although I think it would be likely that I'd pick up some cool information - mainly it's just to kind of be able to experience the sceneJTMMusicuk wrote:apprentiship doing what exactly?
If you want to go down the whole apprentice/tea boy route, you're better off doing it at a studio where they have lots of people through the door as opposed to just following a specific DJ/producer around.
You will have the shittest of the shit jobs when you first start, coiling cables, making the drinks, sweeping up, unblocking the toilet after a heavy metal bass player has dropped a banging turd down there, and it'll could be anything (and this is based on first hand feedback) up to and including a year/18 months before you're even allowed to be in the control room when stuff is getting done.
HOWEVER
If you keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open and generally do what is asked of you, then you will have the opportunity to learn a shit load about the whole production process for a wide variety of music, depending on what sort of stuff the studio does on the regular.
You may even get the chance if you're lucky to have a play around during hours when they haven't got clients booked, and the chance to ask questions (again, when the people with the money aren't there) of the guys who are doing the sound engineering etc.
This will be a million times more valuable than following around a specific producer as he goes about his days, and best of all you can do it when you're younger and don't have to worry about being let into clubs/bars/etc.
Thus when you are ready to go into the clubs etc and start pushing yourself and your music on a face to face level, if you've taken what you've learnt on board your productions should stand out a mile from the other crap being pushed by the bedroom wave.
Additionally, depending on who comes through the studio and how annoying/tolerable they find you, you might even make some useful contacts out of it.
Find out where the studios are that are local to you and ask if they need someone to come in unpaid and help out...the worst they can say is no. And if you're willing to keep quiet and take a lot of shit for no money, then you could get a lot out of it, much more than following around Generic DerpStep Producer #17.

thanks for the advice and being nice just this once - and I was actually thinking specifically about mala, not generic derpstep producer #17wub wrote:I'm going to be nice just this once as I largely think you're a bit of a tosser, but here is my advice;Sonika wrote:I dunno if apprenticeship is necessarily the right word, I don't really have a goal to learn anything, although I think it would be likely that I'd pick up some cool information - mainly it's just to kind of be able to experience the sceneJTMMusicuk wrote:apprentiship doing what exactly?

the only problem is, aren't most established studios for rock/other full band music artists? I mean, I guess I could learn a lot about recording for a rock band, but that's not really the road I'm looking to go down

Honestly mate, see this is exactly why I consider you a bit of a tosser. Perfectly sound advice and a pretty much instant dismissal
You know what, fuck it...send Mala a message on Facebook and tell him some little 14yr old trust fund brat wants to study at his feet in the ways of Dub and see what happens.
IF YOU THINK ALL STUDIOS ARE FOR RAAAAAAAAAAWK PEOPLE THEN CLEARLY YOU NEED TO DO SOME RESEARCH.
Case in point;
http://www.multiverse-music.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiverse_Music
That is the sort of studio that does exist. Yes, I know it's in the UK but that's not the point! As I said in the last post (which judging by your response time you only skim read);

If you can't find a studio in Amsterdam that deals with electronic music...well fuck it, I haven't even got a hollow sounding self-dare to complete that sentence. You will, simple as.wub wrote:Find out where the studios are that are local to you
