Torres scored 9 league goals for Liverpool in the first half of the season before he signed for Chelsea. He hasn't scored that many in a full season since. It's true to say he hadn't been playing as well in 2010/11 as he had previously but under Hodgson we were shit, absolutely fucking awful. We were mainly devastated when he left which if he'd been properly shit we wouldn't have.

Yeah in hindsight your whole team were shit under Hodgson but certainly at the time it was definitely seen as Torres having a bad patch, maybe due to Hodgson but a bad patch nevertheless. He was getting progressively worse anyway and the year we brought him was definitely his worse.

No doubt he got much worse, but I recall at the time talking about it to my mate who supports Liverpool and he saw it more as being devastated because he'd got a bit of a legend status.. but based on current form and assuming they got decent replacements (turned out they didn't) it didn't seem as bad a move for Liverpool as people expected.

He certainly wasn't shit hot when we got him thats for sure.

You're right he wasn't and I can't explain his decline, like he showed glimpses for us that season but I've seen almost nothing since he's been with you. The legend status definitely contributed, apart from anything it's kinda tough hearing that your best player wants Chelsea.

We also bought Suarez so I'm preferring to include that in the equation. As it stands we paid 55m for Carroll and Suarez got 18m back for Carroll and Suarez isn't going anywhere for less than 80m or so.

9 premier league goals up to mid Jan, putting him on a rate for 20 for the season in that form + the ridiculous seasons he had before - hardly 'horrible'

Fair enough not horrible form, I was going on memory.. I just recalled him being in poor form. Plus goals don't tell the whole story, those 9 goals could have been tap ins against shit teams. Point still stands, he was far from "shit hot" and arguably having one of the worst seasons of his career up to that point.. I think a lot of people weren't surprised he didn't perform in his first year at Chelsea. I think its more surprising he never even came close to regaining his form. Was certainly on his way down when we got him thats for sure, whether thats to do with Roy or not I dunno.

There was rumours of him being unhappy and wanting to leave before Christmas/we bid.

edit; 10/11 - 1895 mins played - scored 9 (up to christmas)
09/10 - 1713 mins played - scored 18

How have Benfica not scored?!

This would have been game over by now if Cardozo was on.

Whats the deal with this keeper on the line for penalties? Past 2 Benfica pens the keepers been a mile off his line. Terrible pens though, Sevilla have put their pens away really well.
