Dude starting making / cooking meth because he was too proud to take money from his former co-workers. He doesn't give a fuck about his children. He doesn't give a fuck about his family. This "Heisenberg" identity has been in him all along. He's just found a way to channel it. Like Jesse said to him in Season 1, "Nobody decides to break bad at age 60 or whatever".

Using his children as leverage? You mean 'keeping them safe'? Remember when Gus told Walt he was going to murder his infant daughter and his son if Walt prevented Hank's murder? Sure, he took extreme measures and saved his family in the very short term. But as we see, the shit is gonna hit the fan - Walt is not the big boss. He is not at the top. "Just because you shot Jesse James doesn't make you Jesse James". Everyone was afraid to kill Fring. Walt, at this point, is using his children as an excuse to justify his sociopathic behavior.

He absolutely fits the description of an abusive husband - this is coming from someone who regularly works with domestic abusers.

and your real life identity/job comes into play with a fictional drama with writing close to a soap opera
it's written so they both are chars you want to hate but depending on the ep how much one is worse

skyler is meant to look like a bitch vs walt, i'm sure it will come back before the series finale to bite him in the ass, but she atm is the bad parent and spouse
walt was the timid guy for ages then when he told skyler about shit she exploited it and tried to hurt walt, he finally blows up passive aggressive wise and he's the bad guy now, especially after she reveals she's trying to manipulate everyone? come on now

All I'm saying is that people who say Walt is not abusive don't know from abusive personalities. I'm not defending Skyler - I agree that she was written to be annoying, abrasive, etc especially in seasons 1 and 2. She also has blood on her hands. But the justifications people make for hating her are more often than not rooted in misogyny rather than her as a person.

I don't actually get all the Skyler hate. She is a fairly good person, in an unlikeable way. Walt is a terrible, terrible person, but very likeable for some reason.

I think what tornado's implying is that sticking up for an abusive husband against a woman who's unwilling to let her family go down with him is rooted in misogyny.

Skylar isn't being abusive.. she's made mistakes, but she loves her kids. Walt doesn't care about anything but his ego. His kids are merely tools he uses to manipulate Skylar to FEED his ego.

i think walt loves his kids. his original motivation was so his kids would be financially ok.

i dunno walt has been a classic dad to his kids, the provider and he's always been there for jr, in spite of him practically adopting jesse
his daughter he's had how much exposure to besides providing financially?

i mean one of the early season scenes that stuck with me when walt finally was getting balls was when he saw those kids picking on jr and he went after them
