Look up Nicks Tutorials. Also look up Ableton Operator (Whatever version your using) tutorial on youtube n do em all.
If you need help gelling your mix together, look in the 'want to make dubstep thread?' thats sticky'd and find the link to mixing.
Then read all the stuff macc said in the first couple of pages and you'll be taking the road I did. And read more.

do the built in lessons that come with live, if you haven't already. i'd also recommend tom cosm's tutorials, although they're more intermediate to advanced, im sure you'll still pick up quite a bit from them.

The audio went out on the project I'm currently working on so I went to the preferences and put the audio back to asio. It now plays the inbuilt microphone on my laptop or makes a high skreeching noise when I open the file. Sorry, I just switched to ableton a few days ago and cant figure out whats wrong.

I am on a Macbook pro. And I have chosen Ableton to be in fullscreen.
How the hell do you change that back?
The only shortcut I can find when googling it is using fn+F11. However that does not bring it back to normal as it just lets me view the desktop.

There is a little fold arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen yo. happened to my friend, took 10 min to find it haha.

sorry dude could you re write that? couldn't you just hold your key longer for a longer note?? seems pretty simple to me. ajust your envolope on your attack and filter? make it longer.
or if it's synced to an LFO make it slower.
good quality sounds come from practice and good quality effects.

the High skreeching noise is most likley feed back. make sure you don't have any tracks armed. in the audio page of your preferencs you can go into inputs and turn your internal mic off. you can disable it in device manager too (if on windows.) if the tack ain't armed then your mic then your audio tracks should produce no sound. if It is still, find the track with the screeching and check its I/O for somthing wierd.

It was very annoying first time that happened to me
Anyone got any good vst recommendations that can actually be automated within Ableton - I know the big ones like the NI suite, but what else?

Vst's for what?
Synths? FX?
You can automate basically everything in ableton anyways.

Ableton decided to stop recognizing a handfull of vst's all at once and all, it would appear, quite finally. Reinstallation seems to do nothing. any ideas?

Maybe the search folder was changed or accidental deletion of plugins.
Try a rescan or change folder then rescan.
All else fails, re-install.

Two simple questions. First off:
What does the dither option do when exporting a track? I always use triangular. Also when uploading to Soundcloud, 16 bit is the way to go, right?
I know 24 bit is for mastering and won't play on Ipods, but just wondering about these two things. Thanks

FAO people who use Live for DJing: How do you organise your tracks?
Once you've imported and warped it how/where do you save it? Say you just want a folder in Live with all your tracks that are ready to play out is there another option other than making copies? I don't want to have iTunes open loading shit plus you don't know if you've already warped it or whatever.
Cheers for any replies.
(Sorry I can't help that man above ^^^.)

I wish it were so simple. I tried reintalling the plugins, checking for .dll's in the vst folder (i use steinberg/vst), and finally reinstalling ableton as a last ditch effort. Nothing has helped. These plugs are just gone. I can load other DAW's and the plugs are right there, ready to rock. This is SUPER irritating. If anyone has any insight, please help.
