people are putting too much thought into it... maybe the scene is a bit different in america i dont know. i was told that it is seen as more of a rave ting over there rather than here where its seems more about a dark room with big bass and vibes.

I dunno from what I have heard it is more of a rave thing in the UK... now anyway. It has only just begun maybe last year to invade the raves in the US. For the last 5 years in the US I have seen it mainly in clubs or bars and yeah the room is dark, I like it like that myself. Things have changed quickly with this genre and for the most part I don't really like it either. I had more fun when I was one of a handful of djs in the area playing it and it was considered to be fairly obscure. What is done is done.

Well the other side already had a name. But if you wanna call it sisterstep, I'm fine with that. Just pack up the lightsabres and be out by the end of the month.

couldn't agree more, it seems everyone is jumping on the bandwagon now.. which is a good thing I guess, because it gives more and more people an outlet to be creative and be able to do something worthwhile which is constructive, but also saturates the genre, with only a minority of released tunes that you want to actually hear

I think we need to make it official. Brostep and Nonbrostep will split. Nonbrostep will be referred to from now on as Kid Sister, and brostep will be called My Buddy.

Also, nowaysj, you are less of a man than I and I suspect your genitalia to be very small and/or impotent :D

To be honest i really like this whole bro step, but i can agree that the drum patterns need to be fixed a little. Maybe a drop without a shuffle for the first 8 then add some shuffle it jsut creates a better vibe when listening to a song if its progressing to a buildup. I like dayn and daladubz and what everyone considers bro step. Its nice to here a song adn goo wwwwwhhhatt the FFFFFFFK is that and have a little giggle. RESO is the man like said before he combines both disgusting and shuffle together to make some kind of super beast. IN MY OPINION dont hate me for this but i feel that shackleton's productions. Maybe thats how everyone feels about bro step... I think they are the 2 extremes of the genre and any producer that can combines both of these styles knows the deal!

Firstly it bothers me that on this forum people use "kids" as a derogatory term. What is wrong about being young and into music? IMO this is great, I wish I was so interested and committed to learning as any teenager who can produce a half decent track. This silly idea that the "kids" love wobble and so are going and making it and destroying our highly cultured and refined art. Some of those kids were for instance Skream and Benga, those little idiots went and destoyed some pristine genre of music that was around when they were teenagers with their half-step-sub-bass crap.

And as for jumping on the bandwagon, what, are you implying that these people don't actually like the music they make and go and listen to? wtf? You go on to say it could be a good thing, but to me that is a twisted way to look at it. Have too many people jumped onto the guitar bandwagon. Or maybe even the music wagon? Music just ain't as cool since lots of people started listening to it!

The problem is that people want to "own" genre names. You can't own it. "dubstep" is so diverse now, that as Noways said, you can't be sure you're talking about the same thing when you say the word "dubstep" to anyone. So forget it. Once you forget it, hating on "brostep" or whatever for not having intricate drums becomes as relevant as hating on classical guitar pieces for not having enough sub.

grooki wrote:Firstly it bothers me that on this forum people use "kids" as a derogatory term. What is wrong about being young and into music?
Of course I don't use the term in a derogatory way. And nowdays, we are witness that kids learn faster and faster, so I wouldn't be suprised at all that I hear some decent tune from a 10 year old for example :) I don't know where this will take us, but that doesn't sound bad at all :) Maybe for us that are getting older and older

But when you gain experience, you become more and more affiliated with music in more personal way and you put the soul into it and you can hear it in the tune. Like I said, whether it's deep or it's damn filth wobble, music with soul is what makes it human. You can program a robot to do tunes, tweak the lfo like no human can, but it will never sound as good... I ain't talking about one genre only, I am talking about music overall. And I'm not talking about sub bass, or any technical sound term. It's irrelevant... And I find many of these brostep (what an ugly term) tunes totally soulless, and at least, not creative at all. I don't feel the "human" in them... But hey, that's just me

One comparison, for example (deliberately avoiding dubstep) :

vs.

or...

Overall, musically speaking, we are living in exciting times, everything is available to us under our fingertips and I am really looking foward to see in what music will evolve in like 10, 20 years... :)

Over and out...

I won't even ask why you spend your time envisioning the potential dimensions of my genitalia. But if you continue, I may have to start to charge you.

grooki wrote:Firstly it bothers me that on this forum people use "kids" as a derogatory term. What is wrong about being young and into music?
The music that the young like is often like the young themselves: shallow, self-centered, and lacking any kind of real world experience.

grooki wrote:Some of those kids were for instance Skream and Benga, those little idiots went and destoyed some pristine genre of music that was around when they were teenagers with their half-step-sub-bass crap.
But they didn't destroy some pristine genre, they created a new genre. So much so that people don't scream out "one love, stop subdividing, stop referring to dubstep as dubstep, it's just garage."

grooki wrote:are you implying that these people don't actually like the music they make and go and listen to?
Yes I think that is the implication, and I think it is true to a certain extent.

grooki wrote: Have too many people jumped onto the guitar bandwagon.
A resounding YES!

grooki wrote: Or maybe even the music wagon?
Well there might just be too many people playing with music making software and sharing their experience with others.

grooki wrote: The problem is that people want to "own" genre names. You can't own it. "dubstep" is so diverse now, that as Noways said, you can't be sure you're talking about the same thing when you say the word "dubstep" to anyone.
I don't want to own it, in fact, I'd like to give it away, just so that I can refer to a style of music and be understood by others.

grooki wrote: So forget it. Once you forget it, hating on "brostep" or whatever for not having intricate drums
It's not about them being intricate, it's about them having musical value, them having some amount of thought invested in them, them having something justifying their existence.

grooki wrote:becomes as relevant as hating on classical guitar pieces for not having enough sub.
It's about expectations. If you buy a record looking to hear some heavy bass music, and instead you get 59 minutes of classical guitar, you're more than welcome to hate on the labeling of the music.

Truth be told, I do not like brostep. I really don't. It is extremely annoying. But it has nothing to do with me, or it shouldn't, but that shit is in my face, and in my ears and in my mind because of it's forced proximity to music that I really do love. Brostep isn't bass music, it is midrange music.

Yeah, seems like a bit of a generalisation mate. Lets not forget Benga and Skream were barely out of their teens when they made some of the tunes that founded the genre.

Plus you only have to look at the younger guys on here that make awesome tunes (Basic A, Bokator, Bananabomber to name but a few)

To label the vast majority of the younger guys as shallow, self centred etc just makes you seem like a bitter old man. Which Im sure isnt the case.

Nah his post hasnt offended on a level of tunes, he generalized life experiences, and that alone, assuming someone hasnt been through worse then you because of thier age... tells me he lead a pretty sheltered one comin up... Kids go through real shit noways.

Reference a track : Sway dasafo - On My Own... He was a 19 yr old kid then man. Call it 'shallow' I dare you.

Noone here knows anyone else with few exceptions. We havent walked each others paths and noone has a right to assume that someone has lead a shallow, sheltered life cause they are young just because they were given the chance to lead a shltered one at that age.

Your view is different from the mans next to you, and you can never assume until youve seen.
