i'm definitely not saying people should dislike this end of dubstep because ladies don't like it, but it's really very alienating and it just doesn't fit within my definition of "dubstep"

remember when this music was supposed to reflect the urban landscapes of the inner cities? where did that atmosphere go...
Yeah I agree. It should have an atmosphere to it. It's not just the Dr P side of things that neglects this though. So much of the whole "deep" stuff is just starting to sound like wank techno that should be on laser eye surgery adverts. It also lacks the dark dank atmosphere that drew me to dubstep in the first place. Deep shit is better when it's heavy and deep.

and "ladies like liquid not renegade hardware stuff". So fucking what. The Renegade Hardware stuff is still better. Don't modify your taste to get laid. That's fucking lame.
i agree with the first paragraph.

and no one's modifying their tastes to get laid (i hope) but i do think there is a sector in the dubstep fan base that listens to tear out, wears flat brim hats, loud colored tshirts and acts "hard" to prove their manliness. whether it's to prove to other guys how hard they are, or to ladies, i don't know, but my main point is that people should be more genuine in their taste rather than subscribe to a style or fashion.

that being said, i don't find any artist merit in much of doctor p's, borgore's, etc.'s styles. their tunes have no lasting power. there's a reason we're still creaming over the Jungle Infiltrator EP and the Horsepower LPs. they are works of self-expression and it shows, and it's appreciated.

Yeah, Now firstly I want to clarify I hate all the Dr P shit

but with Dnb I like nothing but the darker Current Value, Katharsys, Donny, Lucio De Rimanez style stuff. I just want to say I don't play it because I want to look hard. But because it's fucking good. It's not brainless shit either. The production is next level and it has interesting rhythms and atmospheres. So I'm not using this as a justification of being into Dr P type crap. Largely because that sort of dubstep ISN'T heavy

i definitely think renegade has put out some great stuff, and i think spor is a genius in his style, it was just kind of a generalization.

some of you people are chalk full of generalizations in this thread.

let me preface what i'm about to say with the following: i don't play doctor p tunes, i don't tend to play borgore tunes (other than that sleepy head remix once or twice cause the bitches love it). i DO play some super heavy shit, i wouldn't consider it "brostep" but then again thats me.

now, being that i get to play for hours every week, and i get to go through the gambit of dubstep sounds (from the ridiculously minimal to the super heavy, as i said before) i get a pretty good guage of who likes what. granted this is limited to my geographical location, but i see people (men AND women) that FREAK OUT (in a good way) when shit like sweet shop gets played. it may not be your or my cup of tea but that shit is HYPE AS FUCK in the club. not just for the kids that want to act hard and eat drugs but for everyone in the building.

personally, i don't like to fuck with "anthems" (as sweet shop could be considered at this point, love it or hate it) because i like to keep shit fresh, but every time i hear it at a show or in the club people still get down.

now i don't really like sweet shop, at this point i cringe when i hear it. and i REALLY don't like all the wannabe sweet shop tunes that have been coming out either, but its got its place and people still eat it up and there is nothing you can do about it other than bitch on the internet, so guess keep on keepin on.

Dunno, but I'm gonna keep saying Dr.P's sound is just ripping off 'when I look at you' until he makes an account here and personally tells me to fuck off.

Aren't they both just trying to make people's ears bleed?

I couldn't slate Emalkay though because of Bats in the Belfry.

You definitely can critisize other producers if you do not produce yourself because you know what sounds good to you and what doesnt, its all opinion, Im not saying I am right or wrong its just my opinion.

best part of this thread by some distance, everyone that raves about doctor p and what not should be placed in a room and forced to listen to youngsta set's, its funny how no one really talks about the mixing when doctor p and so forth are raved about, completely discounting a huge part of listening to dubstep imo

Is a bit of a shame. I loved the early Dubpolice releases. DP004 is top notch.

What a surprise. This absolute piece of shit has jumped straight to the top of the dubstep charts on Chemical.

Its good to see that even though it costs 20 pounds, Return II Space is still holding the number 2 spot.
