Got dragged to Stink like Sock at the the Junction by some pals. After that I was hooked!
Re: What got you into dubstep?
I was chillin with Saul(Chase & Status) and he played me Eastern Jam,Saxon and Bits and I was instantly hooked! I kept asking him,"are you sure this isnt hip hop?" hahaha.
Re: What got you into dubstep?
A classmate showed me Bar 9's Midnight on his PMP. I didn't like it at first, but I couldn't get it out of my head. The next day, he showed me Datsik/Excision's Swagga, and my heart skipped a beat. I was then hooked.
Re: What got you into dubstep?

Re: What got you into dubstep?
A mate showed me a few tracks when Inspector Dubplate came about, ironically now I hate the stuff he puts out there, but yeah, the filthier beats was what I was into initially. Since then I've followed the scene religiously and am now going to Outlook Festival and UWE in Bristol for my love of dubstep and the original sound of dubstep - not the commercialised filth, machine noise sounds.
Check out this group on Facebook I've created, 'The real sound of dubstep' - this again showing how far I've came from liking Inspector Dubplate's uploads:
peace.

Re: What got you into dubstep?
I heard the name Kode 9 somewhere and decided to investigate. I then found a mix by Kode 9 i think for some foreign radio station with like early stuff. It was so different to anything i had heard before and just loved it straight away. Just loved how sparse and beautifully bleak it was. And then i investigated further it took me a while to find this forum and evetually join

Old Skream tunes like Sandsnake, Smiley Face & Babylon Timewarp, my friend had these on a cd back in 2007 and from there I just kept getting deeper and deeper into the sound, then when I saw Skream, Excision & bassnetar Live in 2008 on a huge system i realized how good It really was.

Re: What got you into dubstep?
Before being introduced to dubstep I was a fan of various forms of metal & electronic music, in addition to somewhat liking reggae & dub. Since dubstep is rather similar with metal with its low bass, hard hitting kicks & snares & use of dissonance, I really don't find it surprising that I really got hooked after thoroughly listening to "Audio Phreaks presents Bar9 in da mix" mixtape.

Same here, except I fuckin love Drum & Bass, the kind with dubstep-like bass or screaming treble. But I still don't quite understand what garage is...abstractsound wrote:i heard this shit in my head for years, somewhere between the lee perry and a tribe called quest..
then one day someone handed me a copy of skream!, some dmz plates and fabric37 and i said oh shit, someone beat me to it. stumbled upon the forum about 4-5 months later.
growing up in the states, and not in a major city, i'm finding this in a reverse cycle from all you english kids. after listening to the dstep for the last 3-4 years i'm now getting into jungle and garage.. breaks and dnb have never done it for me, as i know about them long ago but didn't pay attention.
It's the new british invasion, yo. keep em comin

Re: What got you into dubstep?
I was never big into music, but one day I heard a song on youtube in a link, and it sent shivers down my spine when it dropped. I knew immediately that I was in love, and 2 years later I decided I wanted to start producing. Main inspiration was Benga and Chasing Status.
