yeah, curry > most things
If you don't like curry I can only imagine you haven't had a good one.

It's probably a bit like going to Taco Bell and assuming that all Mexican food tastes like processed dog's ass. (It doesn't)

I put false.
Being British is more about being the old man of the nations; sat with a pint in the corner enjoying the creature comforts that everyone else invents/imports, while taking the piss out of everything.
We've been through the whole "I want to rule the world" stage (hello America, China, Russia etc), can't really be bothered to be revolutionary any more as we've "already done enough", and would much rather let everyone else do everything while we just sit around saying how we've done it all before and why everyone else is doing it wrong.
It's why noone understands our humour, why we invented punk, why our government is so boring, and why everyone thinks we've lost our standing in the world powers, when in reality, we just can't really be bothered anymore.
And yeah, we do have great food, we just can't be bothered to send it out.

you've got a point. When Denis Healy RINSED the DOD with spend cuts in the 70s, his excuse was effectively 'ok, lets chill for a bit, we had a lot of fun tho, right?'
then he made bank selling lengs to the Saudis
THATS HOW WE DO

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. I work with lots of native english speaking non brits and i'm always trying to put across this point. We have literally done it all before, invented pretty much everything important

conquered the world (admitedly through brutal oppression) and given it all back (being the gentlemen that we are)
And whoever said that Indian Food is shit needs their tastebuds checking. It's probably the most complex food on earth in terms of flavour and preparation. If you can't handle this then stick to that bland excuse for curry that the Japanese make. Anyone can mix curry powder with hot water.
I've been trying to master Indian/Pakistani cookery for over 15 years and i'm only just at the point where i think it would hold up to that of an Indian Chef. European food is a piece of cake in comparison.

Word! I've been making 'proper' curries for about a year or two now, and it takes a full day (excluding marinade time), it's alot of work, but really really really worth it.

No wonder we're sinking down the shit pan when so many people think all that's worth doing has been done already! You can tell this comes from a country that has shafted its productive forces. Tool Brittania =P

Get a slow cooker. Good for Mutton based curries. Prepare everything during the day (pastes/garam masalas/masses of fried onions) Stick it into the slow cooker overnight (on low) and have the most intense curry the following evening. Make sure the Mutton is on the bone though as it'll turn to mush if you don't.

I havent been making my own garam, i go to an indian shop for that, what is it? just a mixture of spices? It is fucking mental how much onion goes into them! Also funny when you make a curry for someone that 'doesn't like onions' and you say there's no onion in it, and they love it.

I put about 6 onions in a curry for 4 people
Yeah Garam Masala is a spice mix. Good to put in the end of the cooking process to add a boost to the curry. Here's a recipe which i haven't tried but looks decent
http://www.ochef.com/r75.htm
Also buy some Asofetida, it comes in a small yellow container and you can buy it from most indian/pakistani groceries. It smells like rotten eggs but brings out an amazing flavour when you fry it with the onions (1 tsp)

awesome cheers, will look out for it. My local one doesn't have a huge selection unfortunately as it's a chinese supermarket with a little indian section in. Been using Ghee as well recently instead of oil, makes quite a big difference, plus I think it works out alot cheaper coz you can buy it by the bucket lol.

don't know about pork scratchings - still remember the soggy one the special kid handed me on the playground, but british food is definitely underrated.
