A community needs mutual trust, and revealing everyone's IPs is the exact opposite of trust.

You need more moderators, that's all.
I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I never see Vaccine or Conspira post, so I'd guess they don't really visit or moderate the forum to any serious degree any more. Boomnoise and Bunzero have gone...you need more mods, it doesn't take a genius to work that out.
Thinking and Badger seem to be reliable for locking threads and general mod work, but the fact of the matter is that 6 mods is nowhere near enough!

You fucked up when you took the forum offline and you fucked up with that whole 'The Bash' thing (is that where all the mods spend their time by the way?) so please don't fuck up on the IP thing! You need at least 15 dedicated mods, and maybe a few subforums of the dubstep section.
a 50,000 member internet community built on trust? KEEP DREAMING. most people would find it hard to trust 50 people in real life, so spare us.....
people have no idea how much time is spent by the moderating team. NONE of the moderators both past and present has ever made a penny on all the work they've done for this site, so take that into consideration when you sit there generalizing with a big brush, about something you don't have any facts about.

Actually, we all used to just chat in a DOA AIM chat room but when the new wave of talent started coming from DOA classic posters, it became too much so they made the tolerable SSS Forum where everyone could kind of kick back without the hysteria of 2000-2002 Drum and bass, where people were figuring out they could become famous using a PC to make music.

Even then a lot of old school all stars who broke out stopped posting. I think the only huge act who has always posted with some regularity on DOA is/was Dylan and maybe the Evol Intent boys.

Alright, chill! You asked for the forum's opinions, and mine is one of them, so don't get all shitty!
None of the moderators SHOULD make any money - you should all be in it for the good of the community and because you enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it or have the community's interests at heart - quit.

There must be 2000 people on this forum who'd happily do your jobs for the same return if you didn't, so don't give me all that

I do have facts too:
There's more waste threads than locked threads.
The forum's gone downhill.
There's nowhere near enough moderators on DSF.

edit: p.s I don't think it's too much to ask for the forum's members to be able to TRUST the admin/mod team to keep our personal information (IP) private.

i think we can all agree something needs to happen. personally i think before we take any drastic action the best option is to get more mods on board and see if that helps the situation. if that works then great but if not then maybe think about other options. i've been pushing for more mods but not a lot of success as you can see

if it comes to it then i quite like the anti douchebag measures of the options so far

it's not up to moderators to ban people they don't like though. that way dictatorship lies

There were 3 of us that regulated like that at first, after a short while we didn't really need to. People soon get the message, there are plenty of other forums people can vent frustrations of life on .

It's not about a mod not liking someone, part of being a good mod is to remain impartial on everything and just do what is good for the site. You'll lose a lot of the younger kids at first, some will come back when they realise how good this place is without the bullshit. You'll attract a lot of the members back that don't post as much, you'll certainly attract more artists if they feel they can have constructive discussions about he music we all love without being trampled on. BUT you do need to be zero tolerance for a while to get rid of the bulk of the people that make the site an unpleasant place for others that generally have something to offer the community, That's what it comes down to, people are more than happy to put time and energy into a positive community, when it becomes like doa I can't blame mods for not putting as much effort into things, they lose pride in what they are a part of etc.

In the end the members police it themselves, but to get to that you need to cull the people that are here purely to get a reaction out of people and stir shit up. Delete threads that are of this nature or instantly send them to a subforum without notification, if people wanna talk shit, roast or whatever then let em do it in that sub forum. Keeps the general forum a pleasant place to be for members and for people looking to join.

i know exactly who needs banning for the good of the site but rules are there for me just like everyone so i'm not going to go banning those people and essentially breaking the rules. if things change then i'd be more than happy to get rid of some people but until then...

i'm all for that tbh, as long as the people doing the banning are doing it for the right reasons. getting to the stage where the forum moderates itself is the ideal. personally i dislike having to wade in as much as the people who complain about mods doing it, but sometimes it's unavoidable

perhaps the mods should put the twats up for a vote to be banned, or is that a stupid idea? Seems less of one persons decision / responsibility then?

I reckon this is the best option, Maybe could it be possible for new members to require a captcha on their first 5 posts (This would hopefully reduce the spam bots). Maybe if someone posts something and the post could be rated in some way giving positive or negative reputation.
Also to add on to the reputation if someone where to receive a substantial amount of negative reputation from a variety of differant members then they could automatically be banned?
