Re: DSF COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...
a. megauploads expire
b. wait time to download, captchas and other annoying advertising shit, plus no download resumes
c. no option to embed an onsite encoder to do multiformat option if so desired
seriously you aren't thinking this out and just jumping in which is why i'm saying it's gonna fail yet again
it's like one person shoots out an idea instant ok lets run with that
same with picking out people to pick tunes, what qualifies each person other than a desire to do it? what kind of standards do they have when it comes to mixdowns and quality?
there's a reason not every label that pops up is successful, if it were as easy as you guys are trying to make it out to be then there wouldn't be such a saturation of shit in the shops now.
seriously plan it out, do it right and don't make this another free netlabel joke especially when it's supposed to be a representation of this board

Its been tried a few times before, even as far back as Dubway doing it himself. Its a hard game to get into without turning into jokes.
Has anyone thought of contacting on of the many DSF-friendly netlabels who are alreayd well established about putting together a production forum related release? That seems slightly more realistic to me, and as the idea is obviously pretty catchy, we probably wouldnt have toooo much trouble doing it that way...

Aah, things must have changed a lot since I signed up to that site. Signed up yonks ago and barely ever check it because it takes FOREVER to upload a wav. Oh wellDisco Nutter wrote:They talk about this in their blog. Free downloads = bandwidth. People who don't sell tracks don't make money for the site, so they have less free dl's allowed. If you make more than 200 euros or quid I can't remember, they let you have more dls.paravrais wrote:Also they don't take a cut of the paid tracks so why restrict the free ones? makes no sense and I can't find any mention of it on their site...
Also who told you they don't take a cut of the paid tracks? They take 15%.

Where would one go about finding which "DSF-friendly netlabels" there are? This actually sounds like a pretty solid idea. that way we could focus on the music end and reach out to a more established netlabel for hosting bla bla.Basic A wrote:

And Deadly, i don't remember anyone insisting this was the start of a netlabel but you.
I was thinking more along the lines of throwin something together for fun (Mostly) because i love music and i thought it could be the start of a more unified community instead of tons of folks just reaching out to each other and getting bashed on.
I want folks to listen to my music, i want more recognition and i know theres a lotta folks out there who want the same thing. We all have to start somewhere and i just honestly thought that getting together with some like-minded cats would be a good place to begin. Whole reason i joined this forum was to surround myself with ppl who i could learn with and grow with!

Re: DSF COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...
I didn't think it was meant to be a free netlabel kind of affair, more low key than that, just putting out a free to download collection of songs from people on the board but now as more people are adding their thoughts to the idea it's becoming more and more a netlabel kind of idea and of course that requires a lot more planning :\ Like basic just said it's probably a better idea to ask someone who already runs a small netlabel to host the compilations on a portion of their site. Graphics seems to be covered if After Empire is up for putting his skills to use (it was his idea after all XD) and hell if really needs be I'll chip in.deadly habit wrote:a. megauploads expire

As for the judges I think the 4 of us 'selected' represent a pretty nice unbiased selection of musical tastes (and post-counts). Personally I feel I can adequately judge the production value of a tune to a much higher degree than my own tunes represent if you get me but I also truly love all walks of music and won't hold any stylisticc bias when it comes to choosing tracks that are 'worthy'.

Re: DSF COMPILATION! Sortin out the Details...
my bad i read into it as a net label
haha and lol at negativity i'm saying what i'm thinking and i know i'm not the only one
there's been so many great ideas for stuff like this and others that have failed and never had the proper follow through pardon me for wanting one to finally work
what was the last great idea? the blog? what was the last we heard or saw on that?
i'm just saying shit like this needs to be planned out and not just shoot from the hip
it's not negativity, it's past experiences and reality
if you'd lurked this board or been here for awhile you'd know this
simple case in point: everyone loved the idea of a dsf sample swap so i set one up using my own space and domain which i pay out of my own pocket for and look at how many people actually follow through and contribute or use it.

That would never work. Have you seen how many votes the tune comps get round this place?? and the amount of entries for something like this would be far far greater than the amount that get entered into those comps. There would be 4 votes tops and they would all be for the first 2 songs on the playlist.Basic A wrote:Tracks need to be uploaded as polls and top 10 percentages win.

plus then the entire tracks would have to online already and available for everyone to hear already which kind of defeats the purposeparavrais wrote:That would never work. same as submitting tunes that you have the full version plastered all up on your soundcloud and what not, that is if the intent for this to be something special
there i go being negative again
