ocean and the weeknd are both straight-up rnb dudes with major label connections and tumblr accounts.
htdw is a guy making totally different music, which happens to be very rnb influenced. yeah there are some shared aesthetics (between the weeknd and htdw, anyway) but not as many as people make out. they really dont sound anything alike.

Yeah, I wasn't meaning to explicitly link them, I mean that they are seen as the front of the new wave of R&B perhaps. The Weeknd moreso, they have recieved large exposure through Drake.
“It’s an open ended album, and I think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. It’s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a Bach Cello Suite, I see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. It’s also an album that should be listened to loudly.”
